A.M.C finally returns to his own Titan imprint and he’s wielding his heaviest weaponry. Finally we hit ‘Shade’. A fittingly firing finale, the Odin’s breath pads exhale heavily on the intro before we’re blown into yet another titanium bass-fuelled drop. With risers that sound like they were recorded off a 747 taking off and alien sound design hanging off every fill like an explosion on a sci-fi movie set, his stark, dark message is loud and clear: this the first of a long line of uncompromising A.M.C EPs as he guides us into the dark unknown of the future....

With ADE looming on the horizon, it only seemed apt for Ram to yet again provide the perfect drum and bass entrée for Europe’s premium dance event. Set to bring another stellar line up from their roster, this compilation packed full of exclusives helps to epitomise the imprint’s legacy within dance music. Including brand new cuts, demonstrating the Ram’s longevity, this album plays homage to two decades of output. 

Leading you deeper into the dark side of 2015, this year’s Ramsterdam compilation not only pedestals the artists who’ve made such a titanic impact throughout the last ten months, but also the emerging talent from sister label Program and Ram’s newest signees. Whether it’s the old school, growling riddim from Aggressor Bunx, or Calyx & TeeBee’s tell-tale, trembling bassline, each track gives the album a unique vantage point.

Featuring on the collosal track listing is Delta Heavy; an exclusive which relays their elevating, pumping composition, it’s a dancefloor banger sure to detonate any crowd. And Frankee also makes a welcomed return, following the release of his anticipated single ‘Downtown’. ‘Raptor’ is unforgiving, snapped up by different animalistic samples and stridently aggressive – pedestalling Frankee’s unforgiving production standards.

On a totally different vibe, Freek is back with ‘Born Different’, a clanking yet powerful number, one which gears up into LFO-lead chaos with snapping percussion between each break. Brand new music from production outfits Teddy Killerz and Mind Vortex also make a very valuable addition, proving their unbridled talent, with merciless yet complex records that are fierce and gagging to be let loose on Amsterdam’s clubs.  
Two of this year’s most resounding tracks from the Ram camp, Bensley’s ‘Aftermath’ and Gerra & Stone’s ‘L.I.E.S.’ have also received revamps, providing two anticipated VIPs already igniting sets worldwide. Loadstar also deliver the goods; brand new heavy-hitter ‘Dune’ demonstrates exactly why they’ve become such revered names across the genre.

So, here’s to another Amsterdam Dance Event. One with a soundtrack provided by one of the most enduring labels, and stellar rosters, that dance music has played host to. And with Ram also holding a night this October, from first listen onwards prepare to be immerse yourself in Ram’s vast musical environment.

Kosheen creator Markee Ledge releases his debut solo album ‘Elevate’ on Friday 4th December. 

The album, which has been 3 years in the making, features guest producers including Seven, Leon Switch, dubspeeka and Rinse FM’s DJ Youngsta, plus guest vocalists Alys Be, Susie Ledge and Jodie Elms. The release of ‘Elevate’ is preceded by the single  ‘Make Your Move’ feat. Alys B.

Following 5 studio albums as Kosheen, the band’s songwriter and producer, Markee Ledge, took advantage of the group’s hiatus in recording new material to develop his own project, combining Kosheen-style big vocal tracks interspersed with deep underground electronic sounds. 

The 17-track album, which presents a deeper and dubby perspective of the UK electronic music soundtrack, features 9 vocal tracks including 2 tracks presented as Kosheen remixes: ‘Picture Perfect’ and ‘Purity’ both feature singer / songwriter Susie Ledge. Other vocal highlights include lead album track ‘Talk Is Cheap’ and ‘Saturn’ both featuring Alys Be, the latter also comes in a deeper remix form courtesy of DJ Youngsta. 

Kosheen, one of the UK’s most successful live electronic music acts, came to prominence with the groundbreaking album ‘Resist’ in 2001 following crossover releases ‘Hide U’, ‘Catch’ and ‘Hungry’. The album charted at No. 8 in the UK and went on to sell half a million copies, making it the most successful drum & bass album at that time. Further releases followed including the highly successful follow-up ‘Kokopelli’ featuring the single ‘All In My Head’, and albums ‘Damage’, ‘Independence’ and ‘Solitude’.

‘Elevate’ takes the Kosheen template and twists it into the current underground musical narrative. “I knew I had a bunch of very powerful songs in the bag and I was really digging the real deep sound coming from London and Rinse FM,” Markee explains. “I wanted to reach out to the producers I was feeling and make fresh music and recapture that vibe we had on ‘Resist’ - a real current sound but with soulful, powerful songs.”

Drawing you ever-deeper into their forthcoming LP ‘1x1’, Calyx & TeeBee’s next offering presents not only a landmark release, but also their unbridled integrity. The anticipation around this second album is only growing, having scored three Beatport numbers ones with their latest singles. On top of playing sold out shows at Brixton Academy, as well as festivals across the Atlantic and singles and producing remixes on major labels, it’s clear to see how they’ve met these benchmarks. 

‘Cloud 9’ sees Calyx back on vocals, adding a soulful depth which creates a narrative behind the music. Carefully drawn out lyrics create a cinematic edge, intimate and adding an 80’s new wave flare which is seldom seen within the genre. Layers gradually build underneath the track’s more humanistic elements, with a distorted bassline revving up and peddling the record forward. Ducking and diving between twisted beats, you’re launched through a segment of glitchy sonic, before stockier subs underpin the composition. A testament to an unbreakable production standards, it only alludes to another studio album set to make history.

The name ‘Panic Attack’ in itself is foreboding; implicating an explosive flipside, it delivers with an almighty kick and leaves you reeling. Snapping and kicking between hi-hats and low-mids, ‘Panic Attack’ is explosively aggressive from its roll out. Winding up on elongated note patterns and quaking percussion, the erratic break pushes you through a soundscape of madness. However, this is one methodically built… Keeping you hooked from start to finish with pounding drum loops. An incredible verification of their technical knowledge, this isn’t just the groundwork for a second studio album. It epitomises the solid, reverberating history the duo hold between them.
