Subreality evokes the point of view we all must take: one in which we are aware of the many realities that exist simultaneously. As one changes his/her vantage point a glimpse can be taken into completely different worlds - both outside of us and within us. ‘Subreality is an attempt to capture a glimpse of the ever evolving states of realities that are part of the human experience' says Ascension. 

This cut explores big beat inspired grooves combined with a razor-sharp analog acid line. The track somewhat ‘appeared’ one evening from playing around in his Amsterdam based studio, combining the vintage Elka Synthex Synthesiser (a personal favourite of synth legend Jean-Michel Jarre) in combination with the Roland TR-505 drum computer. The end result is an ‘acidesque’ bass line type hook which serves as a repeating and driving motif throughout the track.

Kajeria started out as a melody written by Samhita recorded over a simple drone. It was only after that the arrangement was built. The result is dreamy fusion of 2 different worlds coming together offering the listener a unique journey through ancient India and modern day music production.

Aja Savaria is based on a live studio jam by Ascension, which served as the basis for Samhita's beautiful melodies sung in ancient Sanskit language. The song tells the story of a couple who are longing to be together but they are separated by a great distance: 'Come to me my beloved, let me embrace you, your eyes are so full of love" are the words which are repeated over and over again like a mantra. The 9m song builds to a highly danceable combination of Eastern sounds, percussion and a string arrangement, ultimately ending in a psychedelic frenzy of tablas, arpeggiated bass lines and pulsating synth sounds.

Championing a sound both oneiric and club-oriented, Amsterdam’s Yigal Roos alias Ascension joins up the Fluid Funk fold with the prismatic “Gone EP” - a refreshingly deep and lavishly arranged four-track ride across laid-back, Chicagoan house landscapes and further hypnotic sonic back-alleys.

Starting off with the smooth-shuffling swagger of the eponymous lead-single “Gone”, Ascension has us gliding onto a vibrantly hued cove where iridescent synth tides come crashing with muted elegance alongside hedonistic drum programming and a solar-powered 4x4 chug that packs a subtle punch. In the hands of remixer Moody Waters, “Gone” morphs into a further immersive slice of organic jazz abstraction, perfect for turning the dance floor into a place for full-blown introspective, esoteric communion.

A chiseled engineering of feverish Latin rhythms, fluttering balearic tropes and velveteen sound design, “Albert” runs the gamut from hazy after ambiences to ocean side boogie vibes in one seamless montage of sorts. Topping off the demonstration, “The House Has Just Begun” is as much a laser-precise weapon for the summer festival season as it proves a transporting exotica-laced belter thru and thru. Merging Caribbean steel-pans with straight out keyboard wizardry and Afro-futuristic pulsations, Ascension’s music is one to unify all of our estranged intergalactic districts effortlessly.

Back to the fold after dropping his maiden EP on Fluid Funk in 2022, Amsterdam-based vibes merchant Yigal Roos aka Ascension turns up on Fluid Electronics with his newest five-tracker, ‘Leave Me Alone’. Combining the spaciousness of keyboard-driven abstraction with the impeccable groove know-how of loungey house music, this new EP from the Dutch producer engineers a clever mix of groove and oneirism, intriguingly busting the frontier between full-blown dance floor functionality and a more prismatic, multi-faceted approach. On the menu of this far-reaching travel in sound, four OG versions from the Dam’s maestro plus a pulsating remix from Fluid Electronics affiliate, Gerwin van Engelenburg.

Leading the charge, the lead single and title-track ‘Leave Me Alone’ comes in two variants - i.e. the ‘Raw Club’ and ‘Dream’ mixes, each of which indeed respectively offer a bass-laden treat of FX-riddled synth chords cascading in cinematic motion and a truly immersive session of further vaporous downtempo escapism. Meanwhile, Gerwin van Engelenburg’s remix reels off as the perfect combo of both tracks' characteristics, revving up the tempo past and above the dance-ready 120BPM threshold as it extends its cosmonautical ambience and extra-terrestrial punch to dazzling effect. 

Merging eerie soundscapes with off-kilter bass onslaughts from the deep, odd piano stabs and radar-jamming subaquatic echoes, ’Trying To Get That Louie Vega’ showcases Roos’ most experimental-leaning facet. An odd mixture of left-of-centre boogie and sunken ambiences, scanning out the confines of DJ-friendliness and non-formulaic modular trial-and-error. Perhaps the most spitting example of Ascension’s talent for crafting club-ready weirdo weapons, ‘Groovy Duke’ blends in RnB-adjacent, Rhodes-borne melodies and Sino-flavoured harmonics with sudden slides and accelerations straight out an IDM-oriented headspace; violent gusts of bass and thunderous drums slashing their way into the scenery like a tree tearing down the roof.

These 3 leftfield dancefloor cuts take the listener on a journey of bombastic surprises. The title track It’s Just House features fast paced bass lines intertwined with intricate rimshot drum patterns. U Can’t keeps the rawness flowing with razor sharp synth arpeggios and melody set to a heavy four to the flour. The track Snowy is built around layered staccato synth stabs that take turns with a chopped up guitar sample taken from the song Snowgirls (as played by guitarist Richard Glass of former rocker outfit missAntarctica).

Deephouse Live Jam Set 13-11-2024

Stepper EP is Ascension’s 3rd release on Hypnotic Room/Elektrax Music. This EP features 3 techno originals. The title track Stepper is built around a recurring hypnotic theme and a repeating staccato bassline. Pulsating synth layers add an intensity that takes the listener on a deep journey which sets the tone for the rest of the EP. Midnight continues with a driving 4 to the floor warehouse infused vibes with a pounding hook that just won’t stop slapping. The final track Resurrection continues the trend with a deep and dark psychedelic mood that keeps pounding its mesmerizing melody over a raw pulsating bass.

Fresh off the release of his "Leave Me Alone EP" in October 2023, Dutch producer Ascension returns to Fluid Electronics with his latest four-tracker, "Bringing Humanity Home EP". Featuring two originals and two remixes courtesy of Juju & Jordash half, Jordan GCZ, and Fluid Electronics alum M.R.E., this fresh new iteration from the Amsterdam-based artist oozes freshly-squeezed analogue house juice on a balearic acid tip. Drenched in a honey-like fusion of coastal suavity and vaporous ambient soundscapes, Ascension’s new number hits the audio G-spot with its velveteen touch and effortless swagger, for all lovers of John Beltran’esque blends of rhythmic escapology and head-to-toe textural immersion.

If the original title-track "Bringing Home Humanity" pulls out a funk-savvy mix of laid-back dub flavours and Easternmost serenity, rife with gentle tapping drums, synth-spoken minutiae and proper hypnosis-inducing pads, Jordan GCZ and M.R.E. serve up two versions diametrically opposite. While GCZ’s rework aims for the jugular with its stealth bass swells gone full chop mode and 303-emulated hoodoo casting a shadowy spell over Ascension’s crystalline sound design, M.R.E.’s revamp injects further pace and swing into the mix, sticking to the original’s rivetingly lush nature while gearing it up for extended dance floor use. Last but not least, Ascension’s hedonistic cut "Sensual" gives itself over to a slower and even sexier low-slung workout, primed for in-limbo transitional states and alcove-ready boogie à deux. Feel the heat rising.
