'Fuck My Lights Out’ is the debut installment in Ash Lee’s Wonder Years Edit series, a nod to the early‑2000's bootleg underground. It lays down Etienne De Crecy’s deep, squelchy groove in 'Fuck' and layers Erlend Øye’s cover of The Smiths ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’, taken from the record release of Erlend's DJ Kicks album. An unexpected pairing but they work so well together.

This one's been in the wings for a while, thought it was time to share x

Fuck My Lights Out (Wonder Years Edit)

TFU Dirty Dozen Vol. 6 – Ash Lee (2008)

This mix was recorded back in 2008 as part of the Dirty Dozen CD series for TFU. It was one of the first curated sets where I really started to explore layering acapellas throughout the mix, something that’s stuck with me ever since. Most of it was mixed on vinyl, with CDJs used for layering vocals. One of the acapellas is even reversed… and somehow it worked.

The sound I was playing leaned into bass-heavy foundations, punchy drums, and a slightly left-field take on what was dominant around that time. I was trying to avoid the obvious records and shape something that felt like my own.
