I took part in a recording 'challenge' in February.  I had to choose a theme and begin production no earlier than Feb. 1.  The deal is, it had to be finished, with artwork, and postmarked by March 1.  So, I present to you my interpretation of a slight glide through space.  

As the album begins, you are thrust out of the Big Bang, towards the developing universe.  Our actual starting point of the voyage is, of course the Sun.  The Sun is the star at the center of the Solar System. It is almost perfectly spherical and consists of hot plasma interwoven with magnetic fields.  To me, the surface of the Sun would be much like an iron working factory, slightly industrial with a heavy drive.

After leaving the Sun, we begin our journey toward Earth.  As the solar wave we are riding on hits the magnetic fields of Earth, particles travel to the poles, resulting in our Auroras.  This takes us through the Aurora Borealis.

Upon leaving Earth, we travel through the Asteroid Belt and just past the planet of Jupiter for a split second.  Then, we enter the turbulent rings of Saturn, the most beautiful planet in our solar system.

Saturn's rings look as though they are solid discs, but they are instead made up of billions of rock/ice type particles.  Some as big as our mountains on Earth, some as small as a grain of sand.  These particle spin wildly around the gas giant creating what some call the most dangerous place in our solar system.

We then enter the planet of Saturn, which to me has an uplifting and energetic feel.  The weather on Saturn is extremely violent, with huge storms and clouds of hydrogen and helium.  Wind speeds on Saturn can reach 1,800 km/h.

After a pass through the planet, we are taken through the part of the rings shadowed by the planet.  This trip is a little darker and more intense.  After safely leaving the rings, we travel beyond Saturn (which is where v.2 will pick up!).

This, to me, was a major learning experience in the tools that I have at my disposal to create music.  I know it's weird.  I know parts of it just sound like noise, but I have carefully placed effects and sounds to convey my interpretation of this small trip through the vastness of space.  I hope that you enjoy it and can somewhat visualize my interpretation.  Thanks for listening  :)  And also, feel free to download any of the tracks. here is another outtake from 1999. take 2 of the song TO THE TEETH. there’s no band kicking in to play an outro at the end. it’s just me and my bass player JASON MERCER sitting on the landing above the stairs at kingsway studio in new orleans (now long gone) playing the song.

the glorification of the gun-wielding cowboy, gangster, vigilante… the reinforcement on the nightly news of the threat of poor people, black people — turning the terrorized into the image of the terrorizer is NOTHING compared to the toxicity of FOX NEWS and an unregulated internet. i just had no idea — as none of us could’ve in 1999 — how far fear-mongering and hate speech could lead us. 
when you encounter hate online — say something —do something. when you see fox news on in public spaces — complain — say something — do something. when you hear the lies of fox news regurgitated out of people’s faces — say something — and most importantly: VOTE.
VOTE FOR PEOPLE WHO SUPPORT GUN CONTROL. STOP VOTING FOR PEOPLE WHO TAKE MONEY FROM THE NRA.
voting is our superpower and it is under threat. the very foundation of democracy is under threat. there are more and more brilliant, young, diverse, dynamic and courageous people stepping up and running for office every day. support them, get behind them, spread the word — wherever they are. we are all connected.
it is within our power to stop white supremacy, fascism, patriarchy and the slaughter of our sisters and brothers — our children. it is within our power to stop the death and destruction of climate change. VOTE like your lives depend on it. MY FELLOW VOTERS — i love you. i think you. i honor your service to your country.
