Featuring The Laughing Stock Company of America: Bill Olson, Candy Clark, Carl Preddy, Eric Bralley, and Steve Ashby.  Guitar: Bill Brown. Tom Osina, shown in photo with Candy and me, had moved to Des Moines, by the time we performed Lou's plug. Recorded September 23, 1972 in my Aunt Mary's basement.
 Our announcer, Bill Olson, also announced for The University of Virginia Tape Network and Jefferson Cable, all the while teaching history at the College of Arts and Sciences. 

Plug For "Down Country in Virginia," Cousin Lou's WTJU Show

'Eel an' Toe, written by the late Tom Syddall. It's about a bargee and his horse on the Bolton-Bury canal, and Tom always used to explain that the word 'butty' in the context of this song is a Lancashire expression meaning 'friend', and probably gave rise to the American 'buddy'.

'Butty' can also refer to a boat towed by a barge or narrow boat, and to a folded sandwich. Jam Butty also used to refer to a white police car with a red stripe down the side!

In the early part of the last decade, I worked for a radio program. For one piece, I ended up going out to Dante, Virginia, to produce this piece. I'm putting it here so I can tweet it later to remind myself to go back and listen.
