Bansuri solo over two contrapuntal guitar riffs in E-minor (SCRATCH). A rudimentary demo of the raag I recently created, Gorakh Kanada - combining elements of Gorakh Kalyan and the Kanada ang.

Raag Gambheeranaatai - Ashish Dha on piano.mp3

A study in computer music using Propellerhead’s Reason software, this piece demonstrates the musical richness possible, when one fuses a well-grounded classical music background with training in music technology. The Subtractor piano melody line follows the notes of the Hindustani Raag Megh, the Dr. Rex and NN XT sample loops provide interesting ethno-musical variety, and the Redrum percussion programming gives the piece a slightly edgy sound and contemporary feel. 

Megh Mania

This electro-acoustic piece explores layering of various harmonic elements together, with a repeating piano motif echoed in the bass and treble clefs. The faux vocals were vaguely inspired by medieval Gregorian chants in terms of the large choral sound.

Windy Day In A Sweater

Here’s a preview of a track from my debut album – ‘Why Can’t I (You Tell Me). This piece is at one end of the spectrum – a punchy punk-pop song about young love, angst and apathy.

The song is unmixed, and we’re going to re-record the vocals with a new singer. So please bear that in mind when listening :)

Having graduated with an MFA  from CalArts (in the greater Los Angeles area), Ashish is now freelancing in Dublin, Ireland as a composer, sound designer, re-recording mixer, and recording engineer. He runs his sound studio cum music training and performance space Naadaalay, which organizes monthly concerts, currently at Dublin City University, Glasnevin campus. His theatrical and multimedia sound design and music compositions include projects at venues like the Edinburgh Fringe Festival (Scotland), The British Council (New Delhi, India) and the Rafi Peer International Festival (Lahore, Pakistan). His film mixes have been screened at many festivals including Sundance (Utah), Telluride (California), Catalina (California), New Orleans (Louisiana), AniFilm Festival (Czech Republic), Bahamas International Film Festival and Rio de Janeiro Internacional Short Film Festival. His specialties include experimental music with an Indian twist, teaching workshops on Sanskrit mantra recitation and Hindustani music, hyper-realistic and subliminal sound design for theater and films, and 5.1 surround sound mixing with ProTools.
