Bakk Heia Records' second offering comes in the form of a 4 track EP from their own Jorg Kuning (@jorgkuning) . Based in Wales via Manchester, Jorg has been instrumental in the development of both the party and the labels sonic aesthetic. Having played the inaugural Bakk Heia several years ago in the now defunct Bunker in Salford and at various parties at the White Hotel since then.  

Jorg Kuning’s music explores the symbiotic relationship between the biological and the electronic; inspired as much by the raw natural beauty of the Welsh valleys as it is by dark rooms with massive sound systems. Live hardware jams evolve and mutate, incorporating intricate percussion and sparse organic melodies.

The A side begins with the deep and earthy broken beat patterns of ‘Hibbert’ - a track which is weirdly unsettling in its familiarity. Following this is ‘Tunnels’, perhaps the most conventionally ‘club focused’ track on the EP - hypnotic and dubby grooves roll out with humanistic functionality. Over on the B side, the cybernetic counselling session of ‘Algotherapy’, gently reminds us of the absurdity of the human/robotic condition - all set to a heavy-as-lead bass line under redemptive chords. ‘Bumrush’ finishes the job in fine style - woody percussion moves over earth shattering kick drums; dance music at its most primordial.

Chronologically captured recordings through the journey, stitched together and transferred to tape. Darshan Jesrani first planted Startree in 2013. The label was imagined as an outlet for experiments with dance music and releases which promote the values of arrangement, texture and musicality over volume or novelty.  All produced and mixed, with few exceptions, by Darshan at his studio, The Bhakti Box, in Brooklyn, NY.  Continuing the vibe, and in a timely shift away from the elevated tempos of the club, Startree slows it down for its fourth go-round, raising its sonic ceiling and lowering its floor. The sensuous, broad-minded sound on offer is the brainchild of Eugene Tambourine aka North Satelite.

 ‘A Rising Sign’ somehow recalls salsa without using any drums, as it does house music without employing a kick.  Don’t ask how, just let it groove and try to figure out why your ass wants to move despite the absence of almost all of the hallmarks of today’s dance music. All except for the outsize bassline which holds it all down firmly to the floor while playful electric piano chords punctuate and add blocks of colour to an idyllic soundscape animated by cascading chimes, glockenspiel, bell, synth and zither. A warm, sonic bath you’ll no doubt wish lasted longer.   ‘Le Lagon Noir’ began as an instrumental of Laurie Anderson’s ‘Blue Lagoon’, reincarnated in the form of a louche, mystical, serpentine groove which wouldn’t sound out of place at an aquatic rollerdisco.  Its lyrics revived, translated into French and voiced by the inimitable Camille Vourzay in her smoldering, dusky spoken tones. Bright and mysterious synth textures wash the rich, mid-tempo jam in a lunar haze while pattering percussion adds earth to compliment the water.

 ‘Keep My Light’ beautifully reframes a lyrical reference to the pop-gospel standard ‘I’ll Keep my Light in my Window’ within a deceptively empty-yet-full bed of softly-rendered drum machine programming and shimmering metallic textures. Its wistful synth work hits that ever-elusive, melancholic magic spot between loneliness and abundant love.  Eugene's composition ‘Love Is On The One (No Rues It's True)’ concludes the record, bringing the sentiment back home to where the heart is.  Yevhen Bubon's vocals lead this softly jubilant celebration of a bond between souls. Using a palette which suggests both Logg and Larry Heard, and lyrics which may provoke a tear, this is space-y, groove-laden music for both earthly and cosmic lovers alike.

"Moon II Remixes Pt. II" (Ed Davenport, Erdbeerschnitzel, Levitation Venue & Moutier)

Ashley Casselle creates spacey house, techno and modern disco. With UK electronica act Ashtrax he received attention and plaudits from both sides of the Atlantic in the Noughties, creating atmospheric house music & breakbeats in turn helping pave the way for his diverse and musical djing style to find an international arena. 
After becoming the warmup dj of choice for star djs such as John Digweed, Richie Hawtin, Carl Cox and Paul van Dyk, desirable dj bookings at many of the world's best clubs and festivals followed such as Womb in Tokyo, Creamfields in Argentina and Giant in LA whilst recording and remixing for labels such as Junior Boys Own, MFS, Deviant Records and Paper Recordings.

He's even had his portrait up in the National Gallery as part of a dj coffee table book and entered the ever controversial DJ Mag Top 100 Djs chart.
In 2019 Mixmag invited Ashley to write about his SE Asian djing adventures in a DJ Tour Diary - from China to KL he tells tales of intense travelling, Vegan street food and incredibly good nightclubs highly aloft in neon lit skyscrapers, and spinning beside riverside bays in Chengdu and Chongqing.

He's now evolved his production sounds further and settled upon simply using his own name (or just the surname) to front new recordings, remixes, collaborations and radioshows. 
Finding the ultimate point where a diverse set of influences collide in harmony is his primary directive. Perhaps not many producers could argue that Brian Eno, Boards of Canada & The Smiths' richly layered and nuanced melodies could merge sweetly with the classic house of Ron Trent or earthy techno of Carl Craig, yet it's what he strives for in his productions on, most recently, UK imprints Murge Recordings, Loose Lips and Dutch Jack It Records.

Some of his thoughtfully programmed live dj mixes are available here (which show a good representation of his live deck skills where vinyl and digital remain happy bedfellows) in a quest for the perfectly smooth mix transitions which make his club sets so addictive. 

His Casselleshow on North London's Threads Radio station attracts listeners from far and wide and is being hailed as the more recent and successful addition to his djing skills and sonic adventures. The idea of talking about the weather or his favourite food whilst mixing on the radio is now another new facet to his ever evolving musical journey and notably diverse career.

His new Dayrise Enterprise label and live events show a flair for the more soulful and an experimental side to his repertoire, with the new label launching soon to host exclusively made tracks and imaginative re-edits, all lovingly assembled for long spaced out dj sets and journeys. 
A residency in East London recently saw the Dayrise Enterprise mothership land in its own live 10 hour daytime sci-fi club setting to reflect the diverse and lush depths of the new imprint of the same name whilst popping up with new Dayrise parties in Berlin and Ibiza recently.
An artist album including original compositions and many of Ashley's remixes will be released on Dayrise Enterprise in Summer 2024.
