Chex Ballet is all about the games people play when it comes to “love”. Too often people treat others like disposable objects that don’t have worth, meanwhile everyone is worthy of love. It’s warning to be aware that it’s all fun and games till someone gets hurt. Hearts are breakable. Chex is check mate in chess, these games always end in check mate and it’s hidden by the movement of ballet. I think ballet is deceptively easy, just like the games. Therefore, everyone must escape the Chex Ballet because there is no turning back.

"Most ages have something to look forward to. At 13 years old you're not considered a child, but rather a teenager. At 21 years old you're able to say ‘I’m officially an adult’. However for 19 years old, there’s no significance around it. It’s that awkward year where you’re expected to do all ‘adult’ things but not get seen as one. I’ve gotten to this super strange age that holds no significance in society, yet as a 19 year old, I’ve got the chance to make every moment of this indifferent year count. 

Before becoming ‘the 21 year old adult’, I want to ensure that the kid inside does not get left behind and that chasing paper planes becomes chasing dreams that can become a reality. Remember to take a moment today, to chase a paper plane because sometimes we need to remind ourselves that the child in us still exists.”

Ashlinn began to write her first songs at the age of 16 and released her self-titled debut EP, along with first single #Battleships, which made iTunes top 40 and dominated the airwaves, charting on top stations across South Africa. Her release of #Need Your Love with Dr. Bone, produced by Sketchy Bongo, was a Coke Studios ZA hit and Gray’s pop single #Nineteen charted on 5FM and Jacaranda, two of South Africa’s largest national radio stations as well as came fourth in the International Songwriting Competition. Her last single #Finding Home, from the RADA Unearthed Album 1, a charity close to her heart, also charted on Jacaranda as well as her international collaboration with Clark Cables, #WorkForMe, receiving 350k views on youtube. The 21 year old has now made a move to the USA where she recorded #STFU and performed shows at famous venues such as Hotel Cafe.
