We sat down with the Jimmy and Dan from Volatile Cycle to talk about their friends and how their latest release "Volatile Cycle & Friends" became a thing. They've also put together an eclectic mix including some exclusive bits for you to hear.

1. It’s your debut release on Lifestyle Music with ‘Volatile Cycle & Friends Vol.1,’ can you tell us more about the friends you’ve selected and how you got to know them in the first place?

Morning chaps, well of course. We got to know Kyrist a few years ago now and after a few unsuccessful attempts at collaborations with her, ‘Rolex’ finally kicked off real quick, the best ones always do! She’s a top lass. Sam Harris, constantly impressed us with his little clips of wips on social media and I had to make the connection, i can see a fair few more coming with him for sure. The Mean Teeth guys we are yet to meet properly but both staunch fans of their output this last couple of years. Last but not least, Philth, the scarlet pimpernel, insanely talented dude, we are sitting on a shit load of tunes with him, but thats another story…

2. Tell us a bit about how you two met and when you formed a duo, what was the starting point for Volatile Cycle?

A mutual acquaintance (hold tight Gary Barry B) got us together as we both used Reason, even 7/8 years ago it was a rarity… We hit it off in every sense, musically, chemically, and romantically. 
I was then asked by an old cage fighting school friend to help him do an entry track for his debut pro fight, I got Jim over and that was the first official VC tune, aggy dubstep! 

3. If you were stranded in Boomtown with no wallet and 1 bar of battery left, who from the EP would you call and why?

No wallet too? Ouch. Hmm, none of them would tic us anything, so none of them. ;-) But I’m guessing Mr Harris would still be up somewhere, he’s something of a night owl! Man after our own hearts. 

4. You two have continued to make a strong name for yourself in the scene and have a great connection to Boomtown festival, did you ever expect things to be like this when you started out?

I think you have to be driven in some way to want success, or you won’t get none of it, (stick that on your fridge) but having said that, watching 70k people go off at Boomtown main stage to something we helped make in my bedroom is still something of a head scratch. It’s a mad fest, and we are humbled to be a part of it in that way. 

5. Picking an alias is always a troubling time, so what’s the story behind the name ‘Volatile Cycle’?

Back in the budding solo artist days, I was Volatile Soundz (lol) and Jim was Psycle, after being advised by the Hardware camp to change the Psycle to Cycle it then became the VC it will always be.

6. You have a few other projects on the go too right? are you able to give us the inside scoop?

Must shout out our special one ‘’Barbarix’’ here, he is stupid talented, and some of our best stuff has come with him involved, gritty, tech, liquid, half time, he’s an artist we like to go all the way with, the slag. We do have two other little side projects going, one with Steve and Lady Blockdodger, which will all come to light this summer, and another one like we touched on earlier with ourselves and Philth, but I have to stay tight lipped or he’ll merk man. 

7. You’ve put a mix together for us, it’s quite eclectic. Is this the new style of DJing for Volatile Cycle? 

Most definitely, usually it’s the thrash out neuro or cold rollers that get an airing for online mixes, but we’re kinda feeling with lifestyle we are going to have more scope in terms of what we can put out across the board which is great for us.
