RA.1000 continues with the pride of Palestine's techno scene, Sama' Abdulhadi.

What makes the sound of resistance? For Palestinian DJ and producer Sama' Abdulhadi, it's the freedom to explore her artistic expression in all its authenticity and complexity. What stands out in her mix for our 1000th celebration is defiant energy, the kind that galvanises more than just dance floors.

Born in Ramallah but a student of Beirut's underground scene, Abdulhadi plays charging, self-assured techno, as calibrated for basement parties as for conquering festival main stages.

Her sets are powerful journeys through moods, tempos and stimuli, connected by a deep sense of love. A love for the music, the craft, the soil from which Abdulhadi grew. It's a love we've explored in a cover story, a film and now one of our ten RA.1000 mixes.

As Abdulhadi notes in her accompanying interview, her entry to the series forms a link back to another "pride and joy of Palestine," with Bethlehem-descending Nicolás Jaar's entry on RA.500. Yet ten years on, the landscape is altered beyond all recognition.

As we all watch the ongoing destruction of Palestinian land, this mix is an unequivocal reminder that we cannot look away. It continues techno's decades-old lineage as vital resistance music.

Michael Greene is Fort Romeau, an accomplished producer of smooth and sumptuous, or more groove driven and kraut influenced, house music. It has come in the form of many compelling EPs and LPs and on labels like Spectral Sound, Live At Robert Johnson and 100% Silk and takes cues from Italo and New Wave amongst other things. An intriguing producer who is genuinely bringing something new and fresh to the decades old house sound, he is a welcome addition to our series.  The mix we have on offer from Fort Romeau is one recorded at a recent gig at Corsica Studios in London that found him playing all night long. It was a real opportunity for the man to go deep, serve up curveballs and indulge many musical passions in one long session. 

“I really like playing in this way,” he says. “There’s so much freedom to shape the entire musical language of the evening and to make connections between disparate musics that you just can’t really do in two or three hours at peak time. Corsica is one of London’s best spaces in my opinion, the DJ booth is rock solid with none of the typical problems of playing vinyl that plague clubs these days, the sound system is good and the crowd has always been great in my experience, so i was pleased to be able to take over the programming for the night.”

The near six hour selection touches on ambient as well as various different strain of techno and house from across the ages. All knitted together into a perfectly balanced and well paced mix that keeps a vibe alive throughout, it is a fine testament of his skill in the booth as well as a nice little peak into the influences and inspirations that inform his productions.

I love opening sets.

Opening sets allow the DJ to create the atmosphere for an entire night and are a true challenge (and lost artform) for those DJs, who travel from town to town every weekend playing 2 hour peak-time sets.

Opening sets allow to play tracks (and / or songs) that you usually don't hear in a club when you arrive after a certain time due to the DJs fear of losing people off the dancefloor (so what? :-D ).

For this and other reasons I dedicate this mix to those who tend to come (too) late and to those who come early at the same time and send a huge "THANK YOU!" to those who were participating LIVE in this session. 
Also to those who contributed a few "WHOOHOOOs" in silent passages - one of the many nice things you only get when playing vinyl :)

It was a pleasure seeing the packed floor bouncing...early, did I mention that? 

There is this line in the song "Hello" by The Beloved:

    All you late-comers, just step on board.
    I'm happy, glad you came.
    So welcome home again!

"Saturday Night Live" was recorded live on Saturday, January 26th 2013 at Panorama Bar in Berlin with roughly 98% vinyl & some unreleased tracks from CD.
The mix begins at 12:30am and ends 4:30am with some feedback from Virgo Four's microphone. Enjoy!
