The story behind the song "Paar Chanaa De" is the tragic Punjabi folk tale of Sohni and Mahiwal. Sohni, a beautiful potter's daughter, fell in love with a wealthy merchant, Izzat Baig, who became known as Mahiwal. Their forbidden love led to Sohni being married off to another man, while Mahiwal became a fakir across the Chenab River. Sohni secretly swam to meet him each night using a baked clay pot, but her sister-in-law replaced it with an unbaked one, causing it to melt and drown her. Mahiwal, seeing her struggle, also jumped in and drowned, and they were united only in death. The song itself is a representation of Sohni's desperate, final conversation with the unbaked pot as she swims across the river 🥰🥰🥰
