Breeze (Nothing Really Matters)

Ben Heyworth (AKA This Morning Call) has produced an album of staggering beauty, and Tides, his debut single, has proven an early stand out track. A ‘down tempo, modern electro pop song’, Ben also fuses together electronic and classical musical instruments. The single and its B-side, Whistle, are impossible to listen to just once: full of character and undoubtedly radio friendly. The single also includes an excellent  remix by techno DJ Alan Prosser.

Both the single and album (titled All Quiet at 4am) are set for release in April, but for those of you who can’t wait to be pulled into the world of This Morning Call listen to the single now, via our Soundcloud. Prose and the Manchester Survivors Choir have teamed up to raise money for the those affected by the Manchester Arena bomb by releasing A City United with the proceeds going to Manchester Emergency Fund and Peace Foundation.

Prose (featuring Manchester Survivors Choir) - A City United

Mancunian indie/hip-hop duo Prose and acclaimed chamber orchestra, Manchester Camerata have collaborated on a brand new 5-track EP titled 'Empty Hands'.  

The EP is part of a project funded by the PRS Momentum Fund, which includes the attached video for 'See Me Like This'(lead track) and an exceptional live show featuring nine orchestra members at Manchester Academy 2 on Saturday 23 March. Prose singer/rapper Mike Murray explains: 

“This is exciting new territory. We've wanted to explore this for a long time. It's a new audience for us and a new sound for our fans. We hope it shows what can be achieved through musicians that may not ordinarily work together collaborating.”

Mike - who formed Prose with Lee Royle (guitar, vocals) - wrote ‘See Me Like This’ about his late father after he'd lost his battle with alcohol and drug addiction, as Mike revealed:

"I wrote this song as my dad was dying in the hospital, due to alcohol and drug abuse. I felt conflicted with my feelings because he hadn't been there for me and I missed out on things that a normal kid should have had with their dad. But it's also about how much I still loved him and the pain I was feeling at the thought of him dying."

Prose have even been credited with creating a new sub-genre of Manchester music, which marries indie with rap. Their influences pivot from Alanis Morissette to Queen; Hendrix to Red Hot Chili Peppers, with equal measures of Tupac and Nirvana. 

One of their previous collaborations was with four-time BRIT Award winner Emeli Sandé who joined Prose for their track 'Head Sick' after being introduced by London DJ and producer Naughty Boy – a long-term collaborator who signed Prose to his label after discovering them on YouTube.

The full 'Empty Hands' EP will be available in March.

Straw Bear play 'Quatermaster' live in session for Tom Robinson BBC 6 Music

'Breathe Out' is the first solo release from Roseanna Jones and celebrates World Coming Out Day on Sunday 11 October. 

Roseanne is a singer/songwriter from East London. Best known for her work with UK duo Worry Dolls, who have performed alongside the likes of Robert Plant and Mumford & Sons. This solo single is a departure from her Worry Dolls Americana sound. A tender and beautiful coming-out song in several ways - not only does it mark a new chapter in Rosie's career - but also establishes her as a queer artist, something she has not previously spoken about publicly.

Breathe Out

The adrenaline-fuelled groove machine that is The Winachi Tribe release a remix of their debut single 'Time For Love' through A1M Records (4 December). Initially released five years ago, David Tolan (Primal Scream, Tears For Fears) has given it an update ahead of the release of their debut album in early 2021.

'Stopped Believing In You' is the second release from Carol Hodge's Savage Purge album and marks a slight departure from her usual piano-led style. Here Carol dips her toe into the Darkwave genre, with synths and EBM drums.
