It is April 26th, my birthday and... well... For my birthday I want to share another side of my musical self. a selection of riot grrrl, punk, psych, and busted - favorites since middle school and of recent. I wrote and recorded the last track in the spring of 2011, making it just about the 10 year anniversary of that song; one of the last songs I wrote for my old band, Leather Bones.

Lawrence S. Williams Jr., better known as L.A. Williams, is an American DJ and producer from Chicago. Founder of the label Chisel, producer of over 27 releases, he has an idiosyncratic take to rhythms, sounds and grooves. 

As a huge fan, both impressed and beguiled, I wanted to shine a light on him. I still am often tripped up trying to blend his tracks while D'Jaying and fit them in a mix soooooooo I had to make this all L.A. mix ᏊˊꈊˋᏊ I spent the last few months collecting nearly all his releases on Discogs to use for the mix; a lot isn't available digitally, and it just felt right. 

I think the best way to hear his unique world and sound is via a tour of his various sides and styles, weaving and roiling, building and bubbling, jacking and smacking.

Something about playing that Sunday, after Shyboi, in the room I'm usually doing the lights for, that made me want to just bang it out. Beating the box, my inner truth, my love language. So many drum tracks, so little time... I wanted to mix the old school beat tracks I love with the, often goofy and outrageous, early hardcore from '90-'92 before the genre had distilled into hardcore jungle and DnB. And while I have some misgivings of this live set I think this mix still gives. The reviews I heard were "I was speed skating so much during ur set", "it was giving sexy", and "best yet" : )

New York’s Love Letters returns to his own .FREQLINK label with his first release of 2025, a fresh take on jacking sounds called “ARIEL NES”. Shaun J. Wright and Zif take the core melody to new waters with their distinctive remixes.

Known as an ace of all things 303 and 606, with sought after releases on The Bunker and Interplanetary Transmissions, Love Letters turns out another big dancefloor moment. The original mix is a bubbling 8-bit burner at 135 beats per minute, with a latin piano inspired SH-101 sequence. Chicago native and Smart Bar resident Shaun J. Wright strips things back and splashes his own vocals into the mix on the club-focused “Under the Sea Voyage”. Finally, Zif reimagines the digital sounds with an organic palette - less screen time, more dancing.

Bunker Pride 2020

In honor of releasing 'On The Loose' volumes 1-5, here is a S•U•P•E•R•M•I•X containing 12 of the 16 tracks on the EPs, each paired with a track by another artist. The pairings are both personal and simply fit; some are new records I've just come across, others are old favorites. This mix ended up far harder in style than I often play and for that I sure am thankful. 

These tracks are demos and rejects from over the years, but I still have a soft spot for them. They also fill out some missing parts of the Love Letters story not represented by previously released tracks.
