Now Remember

In between composing, writing, rehearsing, and recording, I have been improvising a lot, and this track is the result of one of those moments. It is very different from what I am working on but, somehow, it holds my essence, and it makes me feel well. Instead of letting it disappear along with many other pieces that I never share with others, I have decided to publish it in celebration of #pianoday2018. I hope you enjoy it.

This song is made entirely out of samples from the kitchen, I used the fridge door, a clock, a coffee grinder and a sodastream machine.

Kitchen Confessions

Day three of Ableton #LoopAtHome and today's challenge is basically to recreate the sound of a fridge (or freezer in my case), sample some items from the kitchen and create a new track from it. And this is the result. 

For the freezer noise, I did my best approximation by humming at the same pitch. This was the same sound I used for the glassy melodic parts, although modified significantly through FX and filters. 

The percussion comes from a beer glass, followed by the sound of a beer can being opened. (I was getting thirsty!)

Once I had the basic fridge noise and rhythm, I added the three interweaving melody lines. They are actually, more or less the same part, just played at three different tempos and three octaves apart. Even if I do say so myself, the finished track gave me goosebumps.

What a fun weekend of experimentation!

Home Time

Out From The Cold

Submitted as part of #LoopAtHome challenge by Ableton. I used my voice as a fridge noise replica and made the drums from the fridge opening noises. The rest of the sounds used in the track are made from a drain protector, water splashes and a glass.

Little patches of grass disappear
In the jaws of lusty squirrels

Who slip into the spruce.
Cars collapse into parts.

Spring dissolves into summer,
The kitten into the cat.

A tray of drinks departs from the buffet
And voilà! the party’s over.

All that’s left are some pickles
And a sprig of wilting parsley on the rug.

When I think of all those
Gong-tormented Mesozoic seas

I feel a ripple of extinction
And blow a smoke ring through the trees.

Soon there will be nothing left here but sky.
When I think about the fact

I am not thinking about you
It is a new way of thinking about you.
