ASOY returns for his third EP on Jack Said What, showcasing the imaginative variety evident in his sound palette. ‘Metaxy Mas’ means ‘between us’ in Greek (‘Μεταξύ μας’) and completes his trilogy of ASOY releases for Jack Said What. 

‘D Drive’ takes a little time to build up a head of steam before the beats start bouncing and the b-line wiggling. A certifiable chugger that bubbles along like a kettle coming to the boil, it levels out into widescreen psychedelic expansion for its protracted breakdown before dropping back into its chuggy, steamy, piston-like groove once more.

‘One Shot’ is where ASOY takes things a bit snooker loopy. A jazzual bassline and shuffly beats are overlain with bits of snooker commentary, an occasional mischievous cackle, and — most distinctive of all — the sound of a ball being expertly potted on the green baize. Clack! Its playful nature marks it out as being from the weirdbeat world, and is sure to find favour amongst those who like to drop a tune that appeals as much to the head as it does to the hips. 

‘One Shot’ was made on a visit to the Lost Orchestra studio boat in Amsterdam belonging to pals Peter Kriek and Ariaan Olieroock. It was made on the last of a seven-day stint as a break from the norm, something a bit different — it’s quirky nature bears that out.

French artists Massai and Lamalice's joint project Smooth Operator has been bubbling under for some time now with previous outings on Anthea’s Partisan imprint their studio credentials speak for themselves. Singularly, the pair have been quite influential in the direction of the French electro scene with their involvement in Sentaku servicing pretty much all of the clubs and festivals in France and beyond a slice of their symbiotic energy. It is not everyday we are sent a 5 hour mix from someone we have asked to join our Phonica mix series; but when Sheffield & Manchester legend Luke Una sends one… you have to jump straight into it! Having become first recognised in the late 80’s and 90’s as one half of production team “The Unabombers” with Justin Crawford, Luke over the years has shown to be a master in all genres be it Balearic, to Brazilian to E soul, House, Disco and Techno, you name it! With his Worldwide FM show over the years gaining a cult following Luke has gained an even more of a broader crowd from his curation of his E Soul Cultura compilation series via the label Mr.Bongo (Both comps topping our EOY lists in 2022 and 2023). This exact vast taste (that is displayed in these compilations) is very much pummelled into this five hour journey of a mix like a piece of clay and sculpted into a fine piece of art. Arthur Russell - In The Light Of The Miracle (Tony Morgan Edit)

It was in the late 90s where a young London born teenage Cypriot boy immersed himself in club culture during its hedonistic period where there was an abundance of choices to experience the most forward thinking underground electronic music; and this is where the tireless musical quest of ASOY was inaugurated. Soaking up such a diverse mix of soundscapes early on left an indelible mark to want to pursue a lifetime dedication to delivering a sonic experience of his own. A craft that he still hones to this day, meticulously developing his genre melding productions, and storytelling DJ sets, breathing a new lease of life into this moniker in 2023 with a slew of releases signed and ready to roll. 

Beginning with an obsession to accumulate a record collection which gave him the initial tools to express his innovative voice. A voice which quickly possessed a distinctive spirit and energy that swept a generation of clubbers worldwide to his tune. After reaching a level of success and global recognition spanning from the early noughties with concert tours and acclaimed mix compilations (including a Radio One Essential Mix being part of the SOS triumvirate collective, in ASOY's words, "I always felt that my true voice was yet to be heard."

ASOY began to demonstrate shades of his diverse palette with the debut single 'Dances with Wolves' on the Eyetone label in 2016; representing an avant-garde approach to a sound that blurred the lines between early nuances and futuristic textures. This led to the release of a debut EP 'Between the Beats' in 2018 under the Secret Music label, headed by Berlin-based modular wizard, Halosaur. It was a bold and expanded sound that focused on a greater depth in dynamics, manifesting itself in a soundscape that effortlessly weaved a cohesive sonic tapestry, creating a narrative to musically resonate and elevate the subconscious psyche
An impressive compilation called Locus for the Techfui imprint came right after; a progressive selection of music that began to lay the foundations of the versatile ASOY blueprint and the ever evolving sounds that continue to follow. This included "Your Addiction", a collaborative effort with Dark Matrix. What followed was a period of enforced isolation that gave the rare affordance of time to explore with a deeper focus on mastering his craft in the studio. 

ASOY aims to make a dimensional leap between his roots and the future of music, threading the traits that have distinguished his persona as a performing DJ to compliment his personality as a producer.
