Welcome to the 331th chapter of the Deep Electronics serie. A weekly released serie that brings you a diversity into the abyss of deep electronic music. This week returning artists Quadrant Soundscape.

About:
Quadrant Soundscape are Tommy Harrison and Wilson Logan from Manchester. Together, they are the minds behind the Dub Explorations Radio Show, which has also branched out into live events across teh city.

The Radio Show itself has well surpassed 70 shows, all 3 hours in length which is an insight into the dedication they have for hunting underground music to showcase and push forward - [www.soundcloud.com/quadrantsoundscape/sets/dub-explorations]


Over the last 5 years, the boys have featured on many podcasts across the globe, where their creative style of playing Ambient, Dub Techno, Minimal and Detroit Techno on 4 decks, while incorporating live samples is always well received. This has also led to them being invited to play many gigs in Manchester, London and Berlin.

Individually, Tommy produces music as Asphalt Layer. His deep, electronic and dubby sound being heard on multiple record labels worldwide. Incorporating analog machines and field recordings to generate the many noises he uses in his productions, along with that 90's Jungle influence, his sound is very recognisable.

And Wilson has begun a new alias, Scavenger, where he dives deep into the murky, experimemtal and dark, trippy techno world to produce very unique mixes. This alias allows Wilson to experiemnt more with his records and sound, often performing in a dark room on 4 decks alone.

With a rich history of playing records and putting parties on in Manchester, hosting the likes of Remco Beekwilder, Ambivalent, Radioactiveman, Detroit Techno Militia, Mark Archer, Jerome Hill, El Choop, ODrex Records and Conforce, the boys have already secured some amazing artists for 2021 and intend to keep pushing that vibe they believe in and love.

Really happy to host the lads from Quadrant Soundscape as we are regulars to their mixes and radio shows alike. 

A few words from Quadrant Soundscape:

Firstly thanks for having us be part of the mix series, we've been big fans of Primary Colours for a long time and it's an honour to sit alongside such a stellar list of Artists. 

For this mix we wanted to create a journey in sound that reflects the sort of stuff we would play in an early festival slot. Starting off nice and deep with tracks from Fred P, Deepchord, Cv313 and Federsen we want you to feel like you are just climbing out from your tent after a heavy party the night before and being washed over with layers of bass, synths and beautiful atmospherics. 

As the mix progresses we move through a blend of newer bits and some older classics that keep the heads nodding and the shoulders swaying. Towards the end of the mix we really try to get things moving with the eternal sounds of Basic Channel as well as killer records from Gradient and Grad_U, not forgetting the heavily played Luke Hess Remix of Echo Inspectors - Lunar Shadows before finally ending on the simply beautiful 'Obsession' from TM Shuffle & Tapani Rinne. 

We had a lot of fun recording this and we hope you enjoy listening.

It's also been super rewarding seeing them achieve so much with there club night 'Dub Explorations' which is held at Eastern Bloc on the regular. Expect the highest quality sub frequency rhythms to get lost in, (perfect for these winter evenings) get a good look at the tracklisting to, some real peaches tucked within this 3 hour journey.

For the month of April's 'Live' mix we welcome 2 legends from the dub techno scene that we were super happy to welcome behind the Eastern Bloc Decks.

First up 'Ohm' (bjarnar jonsson) the Icelandic producer who has been heavily involved within the scene for the past 30 years steps up with releases on some of dub techno's biggest hitters including Thule records, Kontakt, Taped Artifact, Vade mecum, Vuo records and AE Recordings which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records. A label owner himself his 'Ohm Series' label has been steadily releasing music since 2021.

Alongside him 'Kvadrant' (Johnny Fredsgaard) a Danish producer who was a resident on the legendary TweakFM, and runs one of the most healthy and well respected dub techno labels out there currently- Kontakt records. With past artists including - Substance, Mike Schommer, Grad_U, Ohm, VRIL, JS Zeiter, Luke Hess & Octal Industries.

I'm sure you'll agree it's a beautifully put-together 4 hours of deep washy goodness.

" Myself and Johnny came over to honour an invite from our brothers in Music : Quadrant Soundscape. When we first came the place felt small, a little pub thing, but we felt good, the vibe in there just felt good. The hosts started playing some good tracks, the sound system felt big in such a small place. 

We started and it got packed, in such a way that it felt perfect to play some records for the crowd. I love small clubs with big systems and Eastern Bloc was the real deal. Four hours we played, one record at a time and the mood and vibe just kept building. Lots of happy people listening and dancing, it felt surreal and I would do it over and over again. "

We wanted to put together a selection of sounds that have influenced the records we play on a regular basis, either on the radio, in mixes, in a live environment or simply just when we sit back and listen to music. We also wanted to showcase some artists who are not necessarily thought about when discussing ambient music.

Ambient Sessions # 29 - Quadrant Soundscape

Quadrant Soundscape are a Manchester Based duo comprising of Tommy Harrison (Asphalt Layer) & Wilson Logan.

After inviting Wilson to join his collective - DuskDubs, the pair’s love for Dub , Dub Techno , House music and Ambient sounds began to flourish.

Both of these selectors have a wide range of music in their arsenal and you can expect to hear plenty of genre jumping, as well as tracks from lesser known artists and labels, in their sets.

Quadrant Soundscape is the meeting of two minds. Tommy Harrison aka Asphalt Layer & Wilson Logan aka Scavenger. The pair have been playing together since 2014 with each one bringing their own particular sound to the project. Known best for their long running radio show Dub Explorations, the pair play some of the best in underground Dub Techno, electro, downbeat and ambient sounds. When it comes to their DJ sets you can expect them to be diving between their records, CDJ’s and Ableton, with the goal of creating an immersive deep sound, with rolling baselines and sprinklings of sci-fi ambience. Playing back to back they push each other with every record they play, with the next selection often being picked on the fly, to create some truly unique sets. Inspired by the pioneers of the past, their sound is heavily influenced by German Dub Techno, Detroit Techno and UK Bass.

Individually, Tommy produces music as Asphalt Layer. His deep, electronic and dubby sound being heard on multiple record labels worldwide. Incorporating analog machines and field recordings to generate the many noises he uses in his productions, along with that 90's Jungle influence, his sound is very recognizable.

And Wilson has begun a new alias, Scavenger, where he dives deep into the murky, experimental and dark, trippy techno world to produce very unique mixes. This alias allows Wilson to experiment more with his records and sound, often performing in a dark room on 4 decks alone.

With a rich history of playing records and putting parties on in Manchester, hosting the likes of Remco Beekwilder, Ambivalent, Radioactiveman, Detroit Techno Militia, Mark Archer, Jerome Hill, El Choop, ODrex Records and Conforce, the boys intend to keep pushing that vibe they believe in and love.
