"Inspired by the beauty and structure of humpback whale songs, this album was made through collaboration between a scientist and artists. 

Humpback whale song is the most complex vocal display in the animal kingdom and one of the most striking examples of animal culture. 
It has a hierarchical structure: 
The smallest element of a song is called a unit. Units are organized in a specific sequence to make a phrase. Phrases are repeated to make a theme. Several themes arranged in a specific pattern make up a song. 
Only male humpbacks sing, and the songs constantly evolve, but all males in the same population sing the same version of the song at any given time. ..."
