Asquith launches his new label Higher Power with four slabs of pace-y, hardcore and UK breakbeat-tinged techno on the blistering 'Set The Trap EP'.

The newly minted label is set to showcase Asquith's own productions, as well as the output of a select number of other sonically-affiliated artists, and has a stated aim of merging the Copenhagen-via-Berlin fast techno-trance sounds with the UK breakbeat, jungle, garage and sub-heavy genre set.

Here we get a taste of several of the label's key genre tones, all wrapped up in a 145-160bpm shiny fast techno wrapper. Proper road runner club fodder to kick off the summer.

This Time

Jimmy Asquith follows up his massive dancefloor-crushing solo debut 'The Conditioning Track' with a four track techno-house-bass EP that shimmers with London-via-West Yorkshire influences. 

Treading further down the path of UK bass, garage and house - whilst incorporating a heaving mid-Germany techno edge and the skippy NY-Jersey sound - this EP sees a breakout in four directions and a smatter of extra colour in the producers pallet. 

Hard Skippin' (Cream Dub) is the huge garage-house A-side. Taking UK house back to it's 90's roots whilst giving a nod to both North & South England garage styles. Title track Never Alone is a techno bomb straight outta Berlin. Channeling a bit of Wax and EQ'd, this is high-tempo, synth stab-heavy stuff with choppy French house undertones. 

On the flip we have Hot Hot, a reimagining of UK funky through a techno club lens. A no frills drum, bass and vocal track that oozes rhythm and lands heavy with each drop. Lastly we have NRG Mix, a stepped rhythmic filtered slab of dub techno that washes and waves from break to break, steeped in rumbling subs.

100% Unreleased Asquith Mix

Jimmy Asquith returns with a scorching self-release for 2019. This time ramping up the BPM and taking us into seriously speed-ball territory with a trio of thundering club tracks. 

Touch The Sky is a 150bpm trance-techno epic that spans near 11 minutes. Segueing from bouncy liquid bass-lines to soaring chords and a stuttering, trance-y triplet low end - this is a seriously tidy tune for proper speedball sets. 

Flipping over we get the pounding and rhythmic explosion of Cranky. Pace-y drum-tool electro with a heavy pitched down vocal groan. Rapid-fire percussion, resonant drops and some cheeky 808 action. Supreems-approved gear this one! 

Lastly comes Kunstcamp Acid. This should probably should come with a Warning sticker for those of a CDJ BPM-staring persuasion. What starts out as a steady 126 acid drum workout quickly becomes a rocket of a track squelched right up to 150BPM. Originally conceived as a tool for traversing said BPM range in recent sets, this has become a stone cold Asquith centrepiece and gives little excuse to not start smashing the pitch up further.

Speedy-up acid techno from the Yorkshire Dales.

Kicks off at 126 and then segues up to 150bpm for a seriously stomping second half. Proper hammer vibes this!

Asquith returns with another hi-NRG club destroyer. 'Let Me' EP is Asquith’s fourth release - another example of serious tekkers from the northern powerhouse. Written whilst travelling on a plane, it’s a clear homage to early UK rave and euphoric dance. Higher Power has already exercised the shutter lifting rights in the mighty Panorama Bar, while Terror Barrier is a nod to Happy Birthday era Modeselektor with that thumpin' 909 drum. Hoofin' kick drums and melodic xtc for the mind, killers breaks and rave ready artwork - Let Me will take you on a trip, heading right under the M25.

Asquith returns to his self-titled imprint following a couple of external EP announcements for Who's Susan and Private Persons.

Rave Til Dawn EP sees the London-based artist follow up the massive 'Let Me EP' with another clutch of takes on anthemic, big-room techno.

The title track Rave Til Dawn does everything a Let Me followup should do; huge compressed kicks, reverberating piano stabs and epic call-out vocals all collide on an absolute monster A-side. Second track 'Down' traces a more tool-y techno line. Rolling with the percussion and popping with mechanic energy. It's all compiled with elements of the original techno template shot through with a ton of UK bass weight.

‘Crush’ takes Asquith's manic monotone stab template into more techy territory, opening the production up and leading us into a cocoon of pressurised space. Stripped back but still crushing. Final track 'LCD Steppin'' sees us entering back into pacier territory that regularly pops up at the end of Asquith EPs. Shifting pad samples overlay a rickety jungle break and a voice calling at us to "Step!", before we're hoofed into the long grass with a 4/4 kick all the way up at 155bpm. It's not quite 160 but that's what the pitch slider is for ;)

Known for those stodgy, chonky, booming over-compressed hardcore kicks and those bacon-sizzling hihats, Jimbo Asquith slid back into the studio to record a whopping 67 samples that underpin and complement his signature Yorkshire wall-rattlers.

Bumpy techno kicks, crispy hats, snappy snares, clippy claps and sunset-sailing rides, plus a few fuzzy stabs and whomping subs for good measure. The pack contains a slew of originally-crafted one hits plus a cheeky load of hits and loops from Asquith bangers - The Conditioning Track, And Go, Never Alone, Touch The Sky and NRG Mix.

One for the emerging bedroom producer to load into Ableton and slam through some saturators and compressors. Or one for the cynical veteran to blast through £10k+ speakers and criticise into the wind. This is a sample pack for all the family :)

DJ Mountain Dad - Pio Pio

Asquith is back with a sixth release on his self-titled imprint, turning up the love dial for some piano vibes, heavy techno and cat cuddling on the home ravin' 'Love Is A Mystery'.

The title track is an ode to the aching mysteries of love. A nostalgic piano loop riffs along with those signature power drums and breakbeats, sounding like the ghost of a memory of the 5am rave. Lost in the synergy of two feelings, love and euphoria.

This is followed by the heavy, fast, cannon-techno of 'Risk It All'. Drawing from the current Lobster Theremin stable of influences with it's ecstatic pads and pitched up trance-flecked vocals. All 90's introspection with a dash of purpose and poise in its melodic quality.

The flip-side sees a semi-rerun of two tracks that reared their heads earlier in the year. 'Let Me {Thunder Mix)' gets an even harder tweaked remaster, sounding a touch fresher and deeper than before with its rollicking take on the original taking the track's intensity up a notch.

Finally we have 'Return Of Mountain Dad', a nod to Asquith's sometime house alias but in deadly rave form, which appeared on a digi-only Who's Susan compilation in the Spring. The track takes DJ MD influences and adds the Asquith warehouse touch with a dash of gnarly-ness. Think Venom rather than Spiderman, and swap the rhodes for a super-saw synth!

This is a 110 SAMPLE whopper sample pack to soothe the winter blues and provide hard relief to your locked-down musical soul. It's full of warm to very hot samples thrown through a variety of tape/vinyl/scorcher & flamethrower chains plus some added EQ/comp/saturation/reverb to mix it up.

Make some harder music over the holidays and take your rage out on the computer. Technology is evil, governments are evil, everyone's getting richer, use this sample pack to fuck them all.

Goes well with a variety of teas, meditation, pet cats, Ad Blocker, tonal wears, plus any music software you desire.

I often pop my samples through a number of warmers and add a nice mastering chain. Smackos does the bizz but there are tons more, make sure a -0.01db or 0.00db ceiling limiter is applied to keep from getting that nasty Ableton master raw. That raw is too raw. Like WAY too much.

Asquith is back for 2021 with a heavy selection of jungle, techno and hardcore tracks that dive deep into the sub-heavy rave continuum.

Following up a smattering of releases in pandemic year 2020 including Love Is A Mystery, Rave Til Dawn and Temple Runner, plus the scorching Acid Monkfish as Reehl and the deep diving You Know How Much You Mean To Me as Vanisher. Time Warp sets the tone for a year of renewal and further growth, channeling the influence of some of his Lobster contemporaries and an expansion into further sound development.

The EP opens with the title track 'Time Warp'. Weighty rhythmic low end  collides with glowing pads, vocal calls and MIT bleep synths in a techno-bass-bleep cross-genre melting pot. 'Back To Dannys (Ripped CD Mix)' evokes a past time of post-rave drives back to ya mates'. Semi-detached afterparty shenanigans, the original spirit of rave, baggy pullovers and keeping the party alive.

The flip side opens with 'Enter The Core', a classic Asquith booming warehouse techno number with glacial synths and stocky, plastic break chops. The EP closes out with 'Clapton Rider (Original Mix)'. A retro-leaning jungle number dusted off from the drafts and given a lease of life as the B2. A warm, breaks-heavy number for the close.
