BETTY FORD BOYS - LEADERS OF THE BREW SCHOOL

The Betty Ford Boys are the first hip-hop producer super group out of Germany, consisting of Suff Daddy, Dexter and Brenk Sinatra. We call them the rat pack of our beat scene. With all diversity in sound, the three producers are unified in their love for dope beats and high-proof drinks, both catered and consumed with style and expertise.  
 
Suff Daddy, the globetrotting gin connoisseur and minimoog player with domiciles in Berlin, Düsseldorf and Sydney. He has released three solo albums and has worked with artists like Miles Bonny, Fleur Earth, Ta-ku and Elzhi. After a one year stint in Sydney, he returned to Berlin this spring. 
 
Brenk Sinatra, the Wien-Kaisermühlen homeboy, Westcoast rap fanatic and producer of the forthcoming MC Eiht album. Last year Brenk released the critically acclaimed S3 album together with US singer Miles Bonny and has laced beats for an armada of MCs from both sides of the Atlantic. 
 
And last but not least Dexter, the Stuttgart based trip maker and platinum producer with a day job as a pediatrician. This June Dexter released his second solo-album “The Trip” a homage to the psychedelic rock era and one of the most innovative and genre bending hip-hop albums of 2013. 
 
All three first met at the Hi-Hat Club, the producer series that we started a couple of years ago with the goal to push and celebrate the art of beat making. With their respective volumes “Suff Draft” (Suff Daddy), “The Jazz Files” (Dexter) and “Chop Shop” (Brenk Sinatra) each of the guys put the instrumental hip-hop thing on a new and different level. None of their beats need a MC to be complete; they are full songs in their own right.  
 
The official birth date of the Betty Ford Boys was the 2012 Beat BBQ in Cologne where Dexter, Suff and Brenk performed together for the first time. Right after the now legendary gig, that was ended by police forces Suff Daddy left for Sydney so that most the recordings for the Betty Ford Boys debut album took place in the cloud. Right after his return to Berlin, the Boys jumped on the bus and played their first club tour which finished with a gig at the Splash Festival.   
 
On August 30th, the Betty Ford Boys release their first album “Leaders Of The Brew School” on Melting Pot Music. The record combines the best of three worlds and has a surprisingly chilled Westcoast vibe. It's perfect summer music, it's edgy and relaxed at the same time and keeps you thirsty for more ...

On Friday February 7 2014 as Dj Premier was in Detroit performing at Dilla Day, I was filling in for Premier on his Sirius/Xm radio show "Live From Headqcourterz". Being that it was what would have been J-Dilla's 40th birthday I did an all Dilla set in my second hour honoring the late great Producer/MC/DJ. 
James "Jay-Dee", "J-Dilla" Yancey died in 2006 at the young age of 32 from cardiac arrest after a long battle with a rare blood disease.... 

He was one of the music industry's most influential and respected hip-hop artists.

Solid Steel (1st August) We're delighted to welcome the first lady of Hyperdub records, Cooly G to Solid Steel. The South London producer had her first release in 2008, with her debut album coming out in 2012 and has just recently done a remix for Neneh Cherry. She tells us:
"Just was having fun as usual. The intro is just a tribute to Dennis Brown which I just covered, as he is one who inspires me in music. Wanted to have my mums track added so everyone could hear her voice and production. Producing the b side for that with my dad to feat on it so my mum and dad will finally have a track released. Paper Tiger return to Solid Steel in Hr 2 and told us this;
"It's a great honour to be asked back to do another Solid Steel mix - this one's mainly based around our forthcoming release 'Sultan Ant Pop', a remix record to accompany our debut album 'Laptop Suntan'. We've been lucky enough to get some amazing interpretations from producers whose music we greatly admire like Werkha, LV, SertOne, Bambooman (aka Grouphums), all of which are included here. There are also some extra bits and bobs from us on the mix, including some stuff from the original album, a song from our first vinyl release and a brand new unreleased track. Other than that, we've chosen some tracks by artists that have influenced our sound as well as some more recent stuff that we're enjoying. There are squiggly hip-hop beats, a lesser-known Stones Throw gem from Madlib (aka DJ Rels), US rap, a bit of grime, a few dancefloor bangers and of course a healthy dose of P-Funk. It should give people unfamiliar with our work an insight into our taste - it's diverse, but coherent... a bit like our band hopefully! Enjoy."

Under the guidance of Monkeytek, man behind the Portland/Oregon based mixtape label pdxindub, Carhartt WIP Radio travels in dub. Formed in 2006 with the aim to release mixtapes from artists and dub selectors based in Portland, the label has since grown to reflect an international family of musicians and DJs, with mixes full of tracks based around electronic dub and reggae music. Their artist roster includes DJs and artists such as Alter Echo, Shockman, Samizdat, Gulls, Hieronymus and Xoki or the label head Monkeytek. Under the umbrella of dub, Monkeytek also launched the sublabel PDXINDUBTING! in 2014 to release cassette LPs of original material from artists out of the pdxindub family. Furthermore label boss Monkeytek also works closely with other labels like ZamZam Sounds and Khaliphonic, sourcing out fresh and unheard material for special vinyl only releases. Beside his label work he is also a DJ and host, throwing sound system parties around his hometown of Portland. For Carhartt WIP Radio Monkeytek mixed a show full of released and unreleased deep absorbing bass tunes.

Los Angeles based DJ, multi-instrumentalist, rapper, and music producer Madlib let his mind free wheeling and prepared a Carhartt WIP Radio show that accompanies the Medicine Show Europe Tour 2012 featuring Freddie Gibbs, J Rocc, and himself. His mix features unreleased, unheard, and exclusive Madlib material in combination with some known stuff out of his musical universe. An edgy twisted, 47 minutes long collage that melds hip hop and audio drama into one big psychedelic trip.
