Past Lives of Little Importance (Muszeo Collaboration)

I've written this song after reading a memoir of a soldier; I've done my best to recreate his story in a song.  

Each section of the song corresponds with a time of his story.

It begins with his happiness. The bright life with those he loved.  

The war is declared, those feelings are dropped.  Preparations are made and in a moment's notice, he is forced into a war he knows nothing of. Industrialization, training, and grey.

The fighting begins. Friends are lost.  Limbs are lost.  The fighting ends, amounting to nothing. 

Despair and loss of meaning follow, lying in the hospital bed. It consumes him.

The sound of his friends' screams are drowned in addictions. Brief images of peace follow, a kind term for numbness.

A blank time in his life ensues, a time for dust to settle and his heart to scar. 

He recalls the meaningless in the history they call victory.
