Description: This second EP, Animist & Experimental, is Asto´s new step into the interpretation of sacred Afrocuban complex rhythms. This metaphoric bridge between two radically different musical spheres, electronics music and acoustic sacred drums, reveals a semantic approach of artistic hybridation, where the concrete spiritual meanings meet the abstract syntax of contemporary sound synthesis.

J'ai eu l'idée de cette pièce après avoir lu le texte de présentation du deuxième quatuor à corde de Kaija Saariaho intitulé ''Terra memoria'' :
	« Cette pièce est à la mémoire de « ceux qui sont partis ». On se souvient toujours de ceux qui ne sont plus auprès de nous ; le matériau – leur vie – est « achevé », rien ne peut lui être ajouté. Ceux que nous laissons derrière nous rappellent constamment les expériences que nous avons pu partager avec eux ; et nos sentiments envers eux continuent de changer, leur souvenir continue de hanter nos rêves. Même après de nombreuses années, si certains souvenirs se transforment, d’autres restent tels des flashs, très clairs, que nous pouvons revivre. Comme le souvenir d'une étoile filante ». 
Je ne suis pas inspiré musicalement de l'œuvre, mais du texte, donc Étoile filante est une sorte de tombeau à la mémoire de certaines personnes que j'ai aimées et qui ne sont plus là.

What is the place of sacred music in a modern society, and what is the place of artistic experimentation today? These questions were in mind when the tracks were produced and compiled for that first show. Two radically different musical spheres are presented there, one which is the spontaneous meetings of skilled and creative musicians, with the objective of producing experimental music with no limitation of style or aesthetic obligations, and the other which is the music played at a very specific moment in the Afrocuban religion called Santeria or during a « Rumba ». These questions were not asked from a sociological or philosophical point of view, but from an artistic one, without looking for answers but with the idea of creating a context where different aesthetics can be placed side by side. This context is Animist & Experimental radio show, which is the perfect support for such interrogations.

Asto is the meeting of live performed IDM electronic music and occult animist rhythms from the Afro-Cuban community of La Habana.

The project is the result of 7 years in Cuba dedicated to the learning of mystic Afro-Cuban rhythms, made possible by the meeting of Asto with the family called “Los Chinitos”, who trained him to perform the sacred Bata drums in animist Yoruba ceremonies, where the oracles impart their message, the black and white magic are practiced and the initiated are possessed by dancing gods.
