For our fifth exhibition we wanted to merge a work by the master Leonardo da Vinci with 3 tracks by the promising Italian producer Biocym plus three splendid remixes by Polygonia, Unclear and Kontinum.

The Dama con l'ermellino is an oil painting on wood by Leonardo da Vinci, datable to 1488-1490. The woman portrayed is almost certainly identified with Cecilia Gallerani. Kept for years in the Czartoryski Museum in Krakow, from May 2012 to May 7, 2017 the painting was exhibited at the Wawel Castle, also in Krakow. On 19 May 2017 the work is temporarily moved to the National Museum in Krakow until 20 December 2019 and then returned to the Czartoryski Museum.

The 30th instalment of our Podcast Series comes from our dear friend TSUNIMAN ~ the London-based, Swiss-born DJ and part of Sisu and Co-select collectives both advocating balanced representation and skills and knowledge sharing within the local electronic music scene 🌙

A regular at London’s Klub Verboten and frequenting queer parties all over town, Iman has chiselled a reputation for their energetic trance-leaning sets. Yet once outside of the club, their focus effortlessly shifts towards the calmer and deeper waters of progressive ambient and downtempo 💆🏽

This sub 100bpm journey opens with tranquil ambiances and celestial vocalisations, meandering towards the undulating orbits of synthy, arpeggiated vortices and dronescapes, occasionally pierced with spoken word and at the same time grounded and elevated by percussive rhythms 🔮

Teaching Feeling

Drift, aka Alessandro Ferrario, defines his style as “Slow-motion electroacoustic sound paintings”, this definition comes from the tempo he uses, 40 BPM with 4/4 time signature, the main instrument he uses, an upright piano, and the layers crafted using the instruments you can find in orchestra, cello, viola, violin and double bass most of the times. He then elaborates all the patterns, adding modern era VSTs to create layers, like a painter does with paint.

In “Fragments of a Distant Now”, the artist explored time and memories, unfolding slow rhythms and digital manipulation to create textured atmospheres, which, like memories, can convey either relaxation or tension. Using delays, echoes, reverbs, and distortions, he crafts a sense of glitch in sound that mirrors the imperfections of fading memories.

Ludvig Cimbrelius is an artist of many expressions. Whilst all are deeply rooted in a spiritual and ethereal sound, his most majestic output has arguably come to life through the Illuvia alias. After capping off a debut, self-titled album in 2017 with an atmospheric Drum and Bass track, it quickly sparked a two-year conversation between Ludvig and A Strangely Isolated Place to pursue a full record in this style. 

Focusing on the far reaches of both the Ambient and Drum and Bass spectrums, Iridescence Of Clouds, combines the two extremities. Soaring, euphoric Ambient textures overlay distant echoes of driving Drum and Bass, before subtly transitioning to drums at the forefront, once again.

Typically atmospheric Drum and Bass song structures become blurred, as half-step kick patterns sit amongst more recognizable Amen breaks; or reverb-heavy drums; often echoing the worlds of Ludvig’s other aliases - his fingerprint instantly recognizable. The expected breakdowns are often ephemeral; teased slowly into existence and then faded into the background as each track weaves in and out of the two musical spectrums and the progressive emotion of the album unfolds at a glorious, soaring pace.
