For last year's label compilation, I mentioned how I hoped to invite a guest DJ to compile the next edition, and here we are. Of course, it just had to be our long-term musical companion, a good friend of mine, and well-respected DJ, todos.

I was first introduced to todos through his well-respected Kilchurn Mix series. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again, they remain some of my favorite mixes of all time (listen to them all on the ASIP site when you get a chance). His ability to craft a narrative, manipulate samples and respect the grey area between ambient and electronic music, is second-to-none.

Since blogging about his mixes all the way back in 2008, and inviting him to compile a special isolatedmix a few years later, Doug (todos) and I have stayed in touch and connected further after learning we grew up with very similar musical trajectories. Doug also coincidentally, ended up living where my family is today (and where I spent my life growing up) in a surprising twist of fate. And in 2021, after years of speaking online, we finally got to meet, play records (in real life!), and go for a long overdue beer.

I always earmarked Doug to be a part of ASIP somehow, so it is my absolute pleasure to hand over the DJ reins for the 2021 compilation edition. Doug had free choice over which tracks to choose, as long as he included one track from each release of the year. The result is a very special mix, taking us through the ASIP 2021 release catalog in his unique, signature, https://soundcloud.com/djtodos style.

Synthbiont & Anassimandrus is the ambient/experimental project born at the end of 2018 by the collaboration between Nicolò Faggiani and Tommaso Gobbo.
Their musical background comes from different musical experiences as DJs, vinyl collectors, and founders of Electronic Music Culture podcast series.
Making converge their love for electronic sounds, field recording, and meditative experiences, Nicolò and Tommaso shaped Synthbiont & Anassimandrus project around the research of the deepest ambient atmospheres. The core idea is to create musical journeys in which the listener can enjoy an immersive and emotional experience in a unique soundscape.

About the Mixtape
Recorded at Paradigm Festival 2023 at the Valhalla stage, the mix is a 3-hour music journey combining ambient carpets, organic field recordings, mystical traditional music, and experimental sounds. We wanted to explore new sounds and releases as well as to come back to our vinyl archive, to re-discover ambient gems that we collected over the years.

Tvmby was more than just a member of Cyberwave Collective; he was family. A friend, a brother, and a constant presence from day one, he embodied everything our community was meant to be: reliable, kind, and unwavering in his support for others.

Through his music, his generosity, and his steady presence, Tvmby touched each of us in ways words can't fully capture. His loss leaves a space that can never be filled.

We invite you to honor his memory by helping support the people who meant the most to him, his family in Poland. This loss was sudden, and his loved ones are now facing the heavy burden of funeral and memorial expenses, along with the difficult weeks ahead.

All funds raised will go directly to his family to ease that burden and to give them space and time to grieve.

TKJ - Where Our Shadows Hide

Anthony "Shake" Shakir is a rare kind of Detroit Techno living legend - he is an authentic iconoclast. He co-wrote "I Believe" with Octave One for Transmat, was the first Detroit artist to work with breakbeats for his "5% Solution" record for Metroplex / Interface, is on the 1988 Virgin Detroit Techno album, has released on KMS and its subsidiaries, edited the early Carl Craig tunes Psyche "Elements" and BFC "Galaxy" for Transmat and Fragile respectively, won The Electrifyin' Mojo's mix contest "The Mixodrome" while still in high school, and taught Claude Young to DJ before they formed a label called Frictional that Shake still helms. At our March 17, 2018 party "Midwest Freaks" where we celebrated some of the Midwest's finest iconoclasts, Shake delivered a blistering ode to all the edges and possibilities of Detroit Techno. Dubtechno has the capability to connect with your innerself. Listening to it has to be done in nature, late night at home or in your headphone . Some tracks have the length to immerse yourself into them. Especially the long and extended track versions.  They can go to around 20 minutes or maybe longer. To capture this I have selected a few tracks with a length of 10 minutes and longer.  Normally they are mixed in  shorter bits but this time I have tried to give them a full glimpse of there rhythmic and pulsation sounds these dubtechno tracks have. So enjoy.

This is a very special one. Here I host a mix by someone very close to home.. I’ve been begging him to make a mix for this series for ages, but he’s even more of a perfectionist than i am.  Clearly the wait has paid off!

I’m always astonished by sam’s humble talent. His artist name, ‘nino’ is an endearing homage to our beloved grandfather Nino, as well as our Croatian roots. Nino was an architect for decades. Sam’s own architectural talent lies in his creative ear...shining through in this unique, and magically woven musical journey :) enjoy !
