Long-time resident of The Labyrinth (Japan, @mindgameslaby), Hiyoshi’s vivid, contemplative ambient mixes draw together musical elements from a diversity of sources, yet retain a rare purity of emotion and atmosphere.

With Patterns of Perception 33 Hiyoshi aims to capture the essence of his most affecting sets of the past year, including at Sound Garden, Labyrinth, and One party, while also paying respect to friends and artists who’ve mentored and supported him.

The result is a lucid, ethereal selection, a dance in the diffuse sunlight, on the surface of the lake, always hinting at the depths below.

The Sacred Vine of Spirits

"Perceptual Alterations. Increased visual imagery, hyper-acuteness of perceptions and overt hallucinations may occur. The content of these perceptual alterations are influenced by cultural expectations, group influences, and individual wish-fulfilment fantasies. They may reflect the psycho-dynamic expression of underlying fears or conflicts, or simple nuerophysiologic mechanisms inducing geometric patterns and alterations of light, colours, and shapes. Synesthesias, the transformation of one form of sensory experience into another, such as seeing auditory stimuli, may be experienced." (Ralph Metzner, PhD)

Event Horizon

The brothers Samu and Ville Kuukka from Helsinki, Finland, making music together since they were teenagers, and trying their hand at many styles, came upon a unique sound in 2004 and thus were born The Gentleman Losers (https://soundcloud.com/the-gentleman-losers). Their mix of ambient aesthetics, lo-fi-but-hi-fi production, post-rock leanings, a hint of Americana, and a dark undercurrent, has earned them a cult following – which is way cooler than being a stupid lame-o big name and selling lots of records and tickets and t-shirts and stickers.

@segueambient is the name used by Jordan Sauer, an electronic music producer from Vancouver, BC. He creates ambient and dub-techno music with layers of field recordings, acoustic and electronic sounds, creating sonic soundscapes that conjure images of nature and emotions of peace and introspection. He has released numerous solo albums and collaborations with artists from around the world, including three LPs on the Silent Season record label. A high point of his career was the 2013 release of the dub-techno album Pacifica and the following performance at Mutek the following year, captured here in this live recording. In 2020, Jordan was commissioned by Canada’s Michael Smith Genome Sciences Centre to produce Gene Machines - an album based on field recordings and atmospheric sounds from one of the most advanced genetic research labs in Canada.

Presented as part of STREAM ON, a project by MUTEK, with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts.
