‘For home use only’ is an anti-club social, a chance to get to know someone/something. A series of transmissions purely dedicated to exploring the other side.

Here we are again (and again), the cold sets in, the nights are darker and our thoughts drift to the warmer dreams in every shape and form. For the next 133 minutes, we learn how to light one's own fire, through the perfect blend of escapism and imagination. Our sonic guide for the occasion is Tousist, aka Harry, an Irish ex-pat who understands musical coherence,  in a way that only comes along once every 100 years. 

I always struggle to put Tousist’ abilities into words, his musical vitality really speaks for itself, but, I’ll give it a shot. A humble being, with an understated approach to melodies across every genre.  His methodical madness explodes into all his mixes and productions. From dub to techno, he has every single base covered. Ever since listening to his mix for passing notes (link below), I have been paying close attention to everything he does, including his own show on DDR and his plethora of other mixes on offer. He is definitely someone to watch. 

This mix really pushes the boundaries of what ’home’ is, designed almost architecturally, with a solid foundation in rhythm, it allows you to shift your perceptions of some dangerous places you wouldn’t usually call home. Perfectly tied into winter through the depth of the melancholy undertones, woven seamlessly with hopeful glimmers to produce this amazingly joyous story arch.  Every room in this ‘house’ brings form and function together in perfect harmony, different hallways leading to different worlds, biophilia and brutalism in sync, with a buffet of surrealism. Time for the tour.

I wanted to create something that had a vibrant, summery yet dope feeling and it just so turned out id been subconsciously collecting the right tunes to make that happen.

My first rave experiences were to the sounds of Drum n’ Bass and although I’ve strayed from the genre and now love and play other stuff, I think my non 4/4 roots come through in most things that I do. I like the versatility and experimentation of a breakbeat and feel it leaves more room to play - both behind and in front of the DJ booth.

I co-founded two projects here in Berlin, Double Trouble and FACILITATE. For Double Trouble, we do two versions of the night, one being focussed on the art of _baerchenwurst_, displayed on a backdrop of ambient music at our cute hangout spot Kwia and the other is pure party at Zur Klappe. We focus on bass music and are FLINTA so that plays a big role in the curation. I run the night together with DJ Doc and we started in December 2022. 

FACILITATE. I run together with DJ NORTHERN and we are a FLINTA Drum n’ Bass event which we started in November 2023. Both events were started to create more space for FLINTA DJ’s in the Berlin bass music scene, to make more space for bass loving queers on the dance floor and also just because we love it!

Always dig with an open mind and continue to learn about the history of the communities and genres/artists that inspire you. don’t constrain yourself to one genre or one vision of yourself - trust your ear, lean into change and new directions, your artistic identity is a constant journey! surround yourself with people that inspire you and push you to grow, but don’t compare yourself to them. Pace yourself - burnout is real!!

About the mix: This was recorded back in April at Vitarave 006, one of my favorite diy events Vitamin1000 throws annually in the Southern California desert - a friends + fam renegade celebrating our community and honoring how our collective started :) I leaned into the dark liminal space the desert can have at night - this mix blends some of my favorite tracks filled with punchy and electro-infused rhythms, bubbly and lush leads, and bass/dubstep/dnb surprises that I’ve been enjoying sprinkling into my sets.
