I thought my synth patch sounded a little like the bassline from Helena Beat by Foster the People, so I used my MIDI keyboard to record the bassline as I was playing along to the song for timing.

My attempt at a musique concrète piece. All samples were recorded by me and edited in Audacity and Garageband. Snippets of "Taxman" by The Beatles in the samples are included under fair use.

This track is loosely based on the poem "Lines Lost in Trees", by Billy Collins. I really wanted to capture the ideas of getting lost in your own head and the confusion and tragedy of forgetting an idea, which I found particularly resonant in the poem.

The theme for this year's Scratchovision was "dystopian", so I threw together the most opressive, dystopian future sounding noises I could, based on the K Mart 1989 tape from archive.org.
