Kevin Ripley's 'Kinda Jumpin' is a stand up drum 'n' bass heater full of stuttering breaks, unlikely melodies, and fast bass weight. B-side 'goog ogogo go' unfolds in layers of nocturnal bell tones, which slide elegiacally over a relentlessly pulsing acid groove.

Ripley's productions are informed by years of work as a jazz drummer in Philadelphia. A close collaborator of Kingsley Ibeneche, Lee Clarke, Jarrett Gilgore, and other Astro Nautico community members, Ripley has previously self-released several EPs and the full-length Three Changes (2017).

ᥫᝤ ᥎᥅᥍᥄᥆᥈᥉ (Corollary 1)is the follow-up to The Newcomer's 2019 album Inner Being. Functioning as its corollary, ᥫᝤ ᥎᥅᥍᥄᥆᥈᥉ takes a strand from Inner Being and leads it down an entirely new direction.

Daydrenched melodies, jagged noise, stock orchestral samples, and neanderthal drum blows falter and flutter in ecstatic musical arrangements, oozing warmth and vibrance while digital buffers brutally overdrive and override one another, crafting utterly unique electronic music.

Lee Clarke’s ‘Evaporate’ sits in a unique category of single. As complexly textured and detailed as it is precise in its tone and pristine as an article of beatmaking, ‘Evaporate’ sees Clarke joined by Ivy Sole and Kingsley Ibeneche, two of the most exciting Philadelphia-area artists.

A choir of resampled scrawling vocals circulates like smoke in and out of Kingsley Ibeneche’s gently spinning lyrics. Small snappy percussion pops in the stereo field like brief lightning until piano chords bring a downward turn, settling to dust. Ivy Sole’s entry hits like a storm, matched by warbled 808 subwoofer pressure. The song closes elegiacally, with reverence: hopeful, reaching.

'Evaporate’ is the follow-up to Clarke’s Off Nights EP for Astro Nautico. Clarke has executive produced much of the music for Astro Nautico’s ongoing Atlantics X mutual aid campaign, including Kingsley Ibeneche, Jasmine Cassell, KillerWhale, as well as a slew of other artists in Philadelphia and beyond. Clarke’s next production to be published will be Kingsley Ibeneche’s single ‘So Kind,’ due 10/2 on Astro Nautico. A music video for Evaporate, directed by Josh Finck is due in mid-September.

Astro Nautico’s Atlantics X is a compilation celebrating a decade of the label’s existence and fundraising to provide financial assistance for its community members impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

A wide range of beloved artists return to the label, including Photay, Time Wharp, Honey Oat, Michael Beharie, Lee Clarke, IGBO, Tatiana Heuman, Persona La Ave & Baraka, Andre Wiken, Basile3, and C. Form. Label co-founders Paul Jones (P X A), Sam O.B., and Kuhn all contribute new music in the tradition of the original Atlantics Vol. 1-3 compilations (’09-’13).

Astro Nautico’s first all-label compilation since 2013’s Atlantics Vol. 3, Atlantics X serves as an index of the artistic and curatorial development of a ten-year exploration of the interstices of genres, moods, and modes of musical creation.

From Photay’s chirping, thunderous dark mechanics on ‘Sea Urchin’ to Time Wharp’s feather light synth meditation ‘12-31-12,’ dynamic curves traverse a terrain of many sounds at many plateaus. Pop experimentalism in Michael Beharie, IGBO, and Sam O.B. sets a heartbeat that cracks, melts, and is resampled in the shattered electronics of Tatiana Heuman and fragmentary lo-fi trap of Kuhn, while Andre Wiken and C. Form differently treat the dancefloor as a space of reverie and intrigue.

Atlantics X is a crowning jewel of the mutual aid fund and fundraising campaign of the same name. Astro Nautico initiated this fundraiser in spring in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. All sales and streams of the Atlantics X compilation support members of the label's community with financial needs due to Covid-19. Since May, the label has published 12 projects, from singles and EPs to albums and contemplative dance videos, in this series. Astro Nautico has distributed $4,262.65 to date to fund recipients, with priority to BIPOC recipients.
