Brrrrrrrr! My first song written with my new Akai MPK Mini! I can see this is going to be a fun and useful tool. This piece is a dash of George Winston, a pinch of Phillip Glass, and a heaping dollop of reverb, delay, flange, EQ, and arpeggiator. I imagine this as accompaniment to a hike through the Sierra Nevada mountains, at midnight, in January.

So one day, Dead Can Dance, Loreena McKennitt, Richard Burmer, and Kitaro got together in my head to make some music. After they were done, I picked up all their scrap and made this. 

Rituals

One nerdy white dude's attempt at jazz without it sounding like elevator music, with moderate success. This one I produced in stages and spurts, dating all the way back to Caustic 2.

Blueberry Jam

Starts happy, just gets happier. Right at this moment I'm tired of hearing it so I'm not really sure how to promote it. I'll let you all judge for yourselves. That's not me fishing for compliments. I've just been tweaking it little by little for so long that it's currently worn out it's welcome. Just a little composer fatigue. I know that feeling won't last forever.  Enjoy!

Ascendancy

This was more than 90% improvised using my midi controller. I moved and lengthened a few notes here and there, and of course mixed and mastered and added f/x later, but this is mostly as originally played. I love that caustic allows you to do this! 

This is inspired by that state of consciousness when one is first falling into REM sleep, when our minds may begin a few dreams and be jolted awake before finally settling into dreamland.

I gave my track, The Journey, the George Lucas treatment. Caustic 3 has a cleaner sound when exporting than caustic 2 did, plus I added vocoder to the computer voice and embiggened some of the f/x and chords. This is now the definitive version. I will keep both versions up until I need more space, and then the original will be going back in the vault. So if you prefer it for some reason, grab it while the grabbin' is good. Enjoy taking this Journey again!

All That Is Good

Astrotrance Opus# 3. This started as an attempt at a chillout song and grew into something a lot more New Agey. My apologies to Enya, Mike Oldfield, and anyone else I may have subconsciously ripped-off. It's an ode to positivity, living every day to the fullest, dare I say, enjoying one's burrito. Had a little trouble getting the levels just right with the mixing but I think I got it sounding pretty good. The piano is from Audio Vapor and the choir is Julie Resynth.

All songs are made using Caustic 3 for android and a few supporting apps where noted. My musical training is 90% as an avid listener of many genres, about 5% high school choir class (which was ages ago), and about another 5% playing a little piano and tin whistle, along with what I'm learning using Caustic.  

Equipment used: Samsung Galaxy S2 and Note 3, Skullcandy headphones, an Akai MPK mini midi controller on some tracks,  and.....that's it? Is this the future?
