A re-edit/remix of the socially conscious, mostly instrumental Jazz/Latin Jazz flavored anthem, released as the first single off American soul singer Donny Hathaway's debut album in 1971 on Atlantic Records.

I was first introduced to this groove by the track "This is the Guetto" from the album 5AM by producers; Eclectic & Dlourence. Released in 2013 on Plano B records, the track, (which has been a staple in my DJ sets for the last couple of years now) features an extensive sample of Hathaway's recording and seems to resonate well on outdoor dance-floors, especially at the first light of dawn. After falling in love with the warm and smooth vocal ad-libs and quite-frankly divine bass-line of the original, I decided to have a bash at my own quick and fun edit of the track, just for shits and giggles. This re-edit contains extended sections of the original track and was arranged on a rainy morning in Colombo when I was getting tired of writing dance-floor oriented, four to the floor house and techno beats.

Co-written by Hathaway and Leroy Hutson, the track is largely instrumental with a pronounced "Afro-Cuban" feel. "The Ghetto" features vocal ad-libs from Hathaway, who also played electric piano for the recording.
