wav.world emerged out of a long-running chat exchange of mixes, tracks, and some playful speculation: If you were going to make a platform for DJ mixes in 2024, what would it look like?

Mixes are a unique type of musical expression. They capture a specific moment in time, determined by the knowledge and style of the artist. A mix is as important a creative statement as an album, remix or EP. One mix can change an artist’s career, one mix can open a listener’s mind to something completely new.

𝔂𝓸𝓾𝓻 𝓯𝓪𝓿𝓸𝓻𝓲𝓽𝓮 𝓶𝓲𝔁𝓮𝓼 𝓪𝓻𝓮 𝓽𝓲𝓶𝓮𝓵𝓮𝓼𝓼.

We miss the importance that mixes used to have. So, we made a platform for mixes.

Each wav.world mix gives one artist the time and resources to create whatever kind of mix they want, to share something sonic about who they are and what they love.

Every wav.world mix will feature a longform interview with the artist which gets to the heart of what moves them—in music and in life—through text, video and image. Each edition of wav.world will feature the commissioned work of music journalists, visual artists and graphic artists.

Speedy percussion meets screwface basslines: the Parisian club maestros are in session. 

Trying to find one word to describe the music of Amor Satyr and Siu Mata could run you into difficulty. But if we were to try, we'd reach for amphibian: slippery, nimble and evading borders with ease.

With solo and shared releases on labels like SSPB, HARDLINE, TraTraTrax and their own WAJANG, they have evident kinship with what moves contemporary dance floors. The pair are also linked to the rise of an alchemical style they like to call "speed dembow"—taking the looping rhythm of dembow before pitching it up to modern club tempos and adding muscle.

Combining tribal techno, baile funk, dubstep, jungle, dancehall and beyond, their RA Podcast makes for one hell of a ride, with over two hours of romping percussion, lysergic effects, high drama and plenty of wobble.

This week's entry to the Four Four Local Selection welcomes Instinct Society resident DJ Hushpuppy to the series. The Mayo-born, Utrecht-based DJ has provided us with a phenomenal recording geared towards low-end enthusiasts for the next hour. Dial in.

Our latest contribution to the Local Selection comes from Holly Foyle aka DJ Hushpuppy. With a deep admiration and passion for soundsystem culture and bass, Holly has been present in the scene for the last 2 years, sharing her preferred style of dubby, heavy headcore tracks that she's managed to accumulate during this time.

In this short span, she's earned a host of impressive accolades that include playing a range of venues like Wigwam, Tengu, Pawn Shop, Connolly's of Leap and The Roisín Dubh and more across the country. Not to mention spinning for a host of parties like Echo Exchange, Honeypot, Starlight Project, Lost, Intoxica and AMPM too. While also picking up a string of supports for Prozak, Pegassi, Odymel and Juicy Romance in the process. She's managed to make her mark at some smashing festivals such as The Ritual and Fuinneamh Festival more recently.

This stellar mix focuses on all things Latin groove, rumbling bass, and footwork-infused hardcore junglist selections. The recording, to put it plainly is buzz-driven, while taking mood, energy and tempo into account throughout.
