Outsider. Between reality and illusion..

Art is a creative effort to capture reality and to find its meaning through the illusions of literature, visual arts, and music. Art, as any other illusion, provides consolation for the boredom and adversities of life. It is an effort to both create and escape reality. The paradox is that art distorts reality in order to reveal its essence. The distortion of life by art may cause confusion, as one tends to compare one’s existence with those in the fictional settings of books or films. If one does not recognize them as illusions, one may become dissatisfied with life. The illusory drama will always remain fiction, unlike the unscripted life governed by chance.

Literature, visual arts, and music are symbolic representations of reality, like imagination and thought. However, there is a tendency to confuse those mental realities with physical realities and treat them as if they were real. Thus, a great deal of human effort is directed at dealing with the tension between illusions and realities of life.

Way of the Drum is a globe-walking rhythm record built almost entirely from drums and percussion, with only a few carefully chosen exceptions. Each track drops into a different circle: underground ritual pulses, marching snare on a broken battlefield line, rain-soaked forest grooves, desert caravans, and a towering taiko ceremony at the red gate.

The album moves between intimate and massive spaces—a smoky jazz club where drums and bass trade sparks, metallic found-object rhythms that clang like machinery, and mountain vigils where low drums roll like distant thunder. Melodies stay minimal or absent; the focus is on groove, texture, and how many ways skin, wood and metal can speak. By the closing heartbeat of Last Light on the Rim, the whole record feels like one long, shared initiation into rhythm.

Started this project last night and managed to pull off this recording before shutting it down. Can't wait to go back in and see where else this goes. As always this is a freestyle jam session using the Native Instruments  Maschine MK3. Recorded on Tascam Model 12. Thanks for listening ✌️

Definition presents his own creations once again to Definition:music in the form of the stunning 4 track „Progession LP“. Living up to his reputation, the tracks are as engaging as they are addictive and always pushing the envelopes. 

Opening the show on a warm note; „Come Down feat Liu Bei“ delicately teases us as it blooms into a massive blend of smooth synths and titillating percussion. Midway through weíre treated to an elegantly coordinated break-beat, adding a special touch and unfolding a new dimension to the track. 

The title track is up now. Definition projects an electric landscape in which we ride through the night on a steel horse made of pure electricity toward the peak-time rush and unearth ëProgressioní. A solid track throughout, from the first deliberate kick, to the delicate break and beyond. 

„Janus“ brings thick and gritty bass stabs to a driving tech house groove, creating a blend of deep, dark realms with a hot and steamy pressure. Easing into warmer waters, 

2Caught Out“ is vocally supported or rather enriched through the voice of Peter Joseph. A smooth and cuddly but packing groove that pushes straight into your brain never to release you after listening to it for the first time. This track produces happiness, peace and a good dose of bliss my friends! 

„Without Any Doubt“ slowly rises from nothing and transforms itself into a beast of beautiful orchestra of chords and harps. 

Finally, one last vocal track to bring closure to the LP. „This Mystery feat. Jinadu“ is a power ballad that delivers on all fronts and spreads a warm glow with a solid groove.

Just Be has been riding a wave of success in the past year and further cements this new incarnation with next installment for the mighty Crosstown Rebels. The massive ‘Don’t Make Me Wait For You’, featuring Jesse Monroe is a wonky slice of pent up tension and swelling moods, reminiscent of proto garage house classics with a touch of modern slinkiness. As the diva vocal narrative builds with a dirty bassline groove, hypnotic echoes of “Don’t Make Me Wait For You” propel the track higher to truly captivate the dancefloor. The more tangled ‘5am remix’ comes courtesy of Rebel wunderkind Subb-an.

Launching his career as Matthew B in the midst of the UK acid house explosion, Just Be’s identity and sound has undertaken many a metamorphosis, from Bushwacka!, The End Soundsystem, to Layo and Bushwacka! and now embarking on the ambitious solo project JUST BE.

An exciting 2012 saw releases for Just Be on Get Physical, Maison D’etre, Plus 8, and Intec Digital plus gigs at some of the best clubs and festivals on the circuit. In total Just Be’s output under various guises has been phenomenal with six artist albums and a seventh due this year. The super producer has also delivered over 120 remixes, and 160 tracks for labels such as XL Recordings, End Recordings and his own labels Olmeto, Plank and Oblong. Just Be is a true dance music icon.

Subb-an has recently been on tour with the Rebels celebrating 10 years of the historic label. With an album forthcomngg on Crosstown and huge releases on labels such as Visionquest, Spectral Sound and his own One Records. His hectic touring schedule is testament to the steep rise of this underground star and seminal gigs are lined up this year at the likes of Panorama Bar and DC10.
