MCKEOWN & BASSIRAY ( @mckeown-bassiray )

Mckeown & Bassiray are two Melbourne-based producers who met more than 15 years ago over their passion for the dark progressive sound that engulfed dancefloors worldwide.

 
Previously releasing on Proton Music, the pair have returned to the studio to focus their energy on Zero Tolerance Recordings which was recently relaunched in 2021 by Gab Oliver.  Originally an outlet for a few like-minded friends who wanted to make music no other labels would touch, this imprint ended up maturing into a deeply respected label with a loyal cult following that was the cornerstone of the dark progressive sound in the early 2000s. The pair have recently adapted this sound with modern textures, layers & engineering to make it not only unique but refreshingly different.

 
The pair will be featured as the label’s first release since 2004 with their remix of Subritual by Deep Funk Project VS Austin Leeds, which has already been supported by the likes of Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Brian Cid, Nicolas Rada, Chris Fortier, and Lemon8. This will be followed up by a two-track EP of original music, as well as a release as ‘Depth Institute’ which is a collaboration between Mckeown, Bassiray, and Gab Oliver.

ERIK BRUCE once upon a time was a serious raver / clubber. Still to this day a serious music lover and hunter for great music. He took up dj'ing in the 90's and has played at a number of clubs and festivals along the South Coast. 

I've known Erik for quite a few years now. DJ's Tim Cook AKA Sousk + Tommy Mundell (Previous guests on this show) and I headed over to the IOW where Erik lives and put on a night for us around 2011 if i am correct. I don't remember the night that well but I do remember the afterparty and the trip home the next day very hungover. Thinking why did i travel from Portsmouth to the IOW when I could have travelled from Southampton where I live. 

Erik has been a busy man over the last few years doing regular live streams from his home where he plays music from ambient through to techno. Taking in everything from deep house to techno, progressive trance to spaced out breaks. Erik's sets are a melting pot of lush soundscapes and haunting melodies sitting side by side with techno beats and energy infused basslines. You can find them on Mixcloud. Also his recent release called SENSOR on Lee Sofley's (Blue Amazon) label AFFILIATE released on Bandcamp (Links Below). His cool proggy techy vibe has created quite a stir amongst the dj world. I've played it in a few of my sets and love it. He has been on my live stream guest list from the start as I knew he would deliver the goods as i know what he likes and how he plays. He certainly did that. We have a special treat Show 6 this Friday. We also had our friends join him from the IOW Tim Ashwell, Debbie and Chris. Once they decided they could make it, my besties Tim + Kim were up for joining us. So suddenly we had not just a Live stream to record but a little gathering of party people round ours. This was the first live stream where we had friends + family round, a BBQ to kick off the afternoon then started recording around 7pm.

Bio:
BFSN (or Biffson) is an international DJ from Bern (CH)
Mixing since 2012 mainly Progressive House and Melodic House.
His sets are peppered with spherical sounds, playful, deep and a straight flow to keep the listener hooked. BFSN has also been mixing guest mixes since 2019, which have gone down very well with hosts and their listeners. At the end of 2020, he was able to present his skills through a DJ competition of the world-renowned label and radio station "Saturo Sounds", based in the UK, and was given his own monthly radio show "Lost In Sound" since the beginning of 2021.
