This is one of my favorite Nina Simone songs.  I added a verse about Broad Street a few years back and now I live there. So here's to a full circle. Hope you enjoy it as much as I do singin it.

Ramon taught me the song cura sana. Well, he played the recording for me and I had to learn it. It was written by one of his teachers. We chicken scratched the lyrics, he didn't really know what they were since they are in Quechua, the language of the Andes Mountains. Since then, I've learned the actual lyrics and significance of this song. It's a song for Taita Selot, the black jaguar who eats you fear. The song gives him permission to come and thanks him. Ramon was this black jaguar. 

This recording is from the last time I saw Ramon.  He came to my studio with Freddy Valasquez to pick up the brew he left with me. He wanted to hear Cura Sana. I was far from truly knowing the lyrics but still sang the best I could. Then we tried to sing Agua de Estrellas together. Thankfully Freddy comes in and brings us forth full song. 

Thank you for your gifts Ramon. Today you would have been 36 years old.
