Once upon a time before Black beard and Captain Jack Sparrow, there was the original pirate named George,  he set to sea at 13 and worked his way to Captain of his own boat at 16. Life was about the gold and treasures wherever he could find it. Crossing ships from around the world that would be carrying Silks, gems & gold. 
Posiden payed attention to this through the years and one day rose from the sea to have a chat with Captain George... he offered him all the treasures he could ever want till the end of time as long as he gave his soul to the Sea. George agreed.... years went by and he became the most successful pirate of the entire sea. 
He knew his time was coming to an end and ran to the forest to hide.... (unbeknownst to him, Posidens son was God of the forest- PHAUNOS.) 
Phaunos knew the agreement struck between Posiden and George... 
So, he sent him to sea...
As Punishment for running - he was turned into the Kraken. 
This is the Krakens story, And why he fights Posiden and sinks ships. 
The Kraken is perhaps the largest monster ever imagined by mankind. In Nordic folklore, it was said to haunt the seas from Norway through Iceland and all the way to Greenland. ... The history of the Kraken goes back to an account written in 1180 by King Sverre of Norway.
