Born in the Alps in a small house spreading between the Italian and Swiss border, Alan Strani is a transdisciplinary artist exploring music and visual arts. For his new album, he invited artists Saeko Killy, Dasho Utochka (Love Object) and French singer Tessa Martin to join him in his attempt to musically make sense of the current Zeitgeist while questioning our relation to the digital world. The result is the album carried by its homonym single Apocalypso, a wordplay suggesting that, in the face of a possible emerging Apocalypse, like Ulysse during his Odyssey, the entire world is being distracted by the charms of the Calypso nymph.

In 1984, Gianni Ephrikian released “Chiquita”. Now a reputable conductor and composer of film music in Italy, he was surprised when we approached him about this release that we had picked up at a local flea market in Berlin Schöneberg almost 30 years later. Our label tries to situate old music into new contexts and it was clear that “Chiquita” should have a reissue. This resulted in a 2-year spanning collaboration between artists from various ages and musical backgrounds reinterpreting aspects of “Chiquita”while staying true to its root–fun, disco and dance appeal. “Mi Vida” is a groovy balearic house take, DJ Gigola reinterprets the original with vocals from the Barcelona-based band Habla de mí en presente. Rifts presents an italo-inspired floor filler featuring the catalan duo Tata Relena. Gerd Janson provides us with a classic dance edit, and of course the original, remastered versions will be featured on the record as well.

We are fully aware that "Chiquita" is a loaded term, used in both derogative and affectionate ways for addressing women. It is also the name of a multinational brand selling bananas. That is why No Frills has decided that all profits from this release will go to theLatin American Women's Aid Foundation (https://lawadv.org.uk/) who work tirelessly to free women from violence and oppression in Latin American countries. A bit more then a year ago I received a message from Déni Shain, a french music producer based in Lisbon. In that mail he asked me if I would be interested in releasing music from Cabo Verde since he was close to Chico and Wilson, the 2 DJs behind Celeste Mariposa (an excellent portuguese/angolan soundsystem specialised in lusophone music). 'I can convince them to make their record collection available to you' he added. I asked him if he could send me a selection, not knowing the amount of work my request would represent. I only later found out that the three-men-team had spent a whole week to pick and choose what they thought was adequate and another few days to wash the record and digitise the music.

I received that selection in March 2013 and I haven't stopped listening to it since. I clearly remember having that wonderful feeling when songs keep growing on you the more you listen. 'Very good sign' I thought! The collection of songs I had received became the base for a whole concept and we all started criss crossing Europe and Cabo Verde looking for more music and looking for the Cap-Verdien artists we loved. Déni Shain became an important asset for the Analog Africa label, supporting us with remixes and mixes but more importantly with an addictive positive energy.

After his first mix for us, the amazing 'Ghana Soundtrack' made out of unreleased and rare tracks from the small west african musical powerhouse, here is his second instalment made of handpicked dancefloor filler. A huge shout goes to legendary african music connoisseur John Beatle, to Carlo Xavier for letting us use his fantastic edit of "O Anel"  and to my close friend Keith Slater for offering us some of the fantastic music included here.
