One of the thriving forces of the northern European electronic music scene, it's Steffan Todorović who is lined-up next for the art:cast series. As the founder and co-founder of Gestalt Records respectively Coymix Ltd, which Steffan runs with Timo Deeprhythms, the artist lets followers of the arts discover aspiring and renowned artists from the scene. It looks differently when it comes to his production project Abdul Raeva, where he specifically shares his own vision and approach of music together with his partner in crime Joonas, also known as Rashida Prime. The latest output was a contribution of the duo to Mint Tea's V/A Basic Contact alongside artists such as Zobol, Boulderhead and Toke and a track for Gestalt Records anniversary sampler, while in 2020 Steffan released music on Neptune Discs or Dance All Day Records among and others. Whether or not there's more music to come this year, the present has Steffan mixing and compiling a flawless art:cast covering fresh, older and upcoming bits of music viscerally put together to make you move through time and space, to get lost in the pads and stomp to lush bass lines.

STATEMENT #5 w/ Innuendo (11.07.2021)

WWM is happy to welcome one of the purest talents of the scene, directly from Kyiv, Vladimir Gnatenko.
Vladimir built his reputation with some outstanding live shows, and he is one of the most interesting artists of the shining Ukrainian scene.

The EP is a perfect example of the diversity of styles he covers, from 4/4 to breakbeat with a very unique blend of spacey trance sound which is a trademark of his productions.

A side opens up with Storm, an emotional excursion into Vlad’s art. Nostalgic synth lines evolving into a hedonistic dancefloor banger.

A2 is Roosblom, a kidnapping tune that brings you to a dystopic world when new forms of life are trying to surface.

On the flip side, we have Toevlug, the most introspective piece of the EP. Melancholic sounds and robotic sequences create a dreamy aura while the sneaky breakbeat held up the tension.

Skarrel closes the EP with a ruthless 4/4 beat combined with a gloomy atmosphere that finds its climax on the break. That’s pure madness in a big sound system.

Naitwa is a Leipzig based DJ who is part of the collective “nice 4 what” (@nice4whatcrew) representing house music and organizing like minded events. She is also a member of “Petrola” (@petr.ola) crew from Leipzig and is involved in the regular event series DRIVE at Institut fuer Zukunft. Her heart truly belongs to house music in its various forms – tech, prog, 90s to early 2000s or nu skool breaky stuff to dub and Detroit techno– Naitwa loves to spin them all. As you might notice, old school vocals make her weak – at alltimes.

PJ takes you on a sonic trip through rainy soundscapes with a steadily driving submission for this month's Empty Container. The Leipzig based DJ has his fingers in every pie over town and explores his own raw style in his conceptual mixes and his original productions. Watch out for some fresh unreleased stuff.

Despite productions appearing here and there since 2015, Yuzo Iwata has kept a relatively low output. Contributing tracks to compilations and releasing singles under aliases Fabio Lazaro and Almost East, Iwata is also affiliated with Junki Inoue’s recent SAISEI label, editing pioneering early Japanese techno from the likes of Suzukiski and COLOGNe for rerelease.After ‘Acid House’ appeared on the Butter Sessions Come Together 12” in 2020, the label now play host to Yuzo Iwata’s first ever full length. The 10 tracks span a wide variety of tempos and show a consistent approach to unusual sound design first evidenced in Iwata’s RA Mix of the Day for Clubberia (100% originals recorded circa 2017).

Kaizu unfolds with dense environmental ambient textures before ‘Neverland’ takes us into broken dancehall rhythms and acid-tinged dub. ‘Funclub’ is reminiscent of Japanese video game soundtracks and 80s fusion whilst further into Side A the balearic energy continues to captivate, closing with the beautiful ‘Heroes Show Up Late’. This short piece is built around a looping vocal sample and shuffling drum work that all come together perfectly. There’s even a trace of Brazilian MPB influence at play with the vocal/synth interplay. It’s Iwata’s knack for percussion that is most evident across the album however, with Side B opening cut ‘Gamelion’ taking an Indonesian inspired approach to modern techno. It runs in a similar vein to Komodo Kolektif’s work and might be the dancefloor highlight of the whole LP. ‘Sundance’ follows with more Japanese motifs, recalling Haruomi Hosono’s F.O.E project. Another strong rhythmic workout suited to the floor. The environmental ambient textures return with the closing piece ‘Time 2 L’, strings, bird calls and droning synthesiser winding down the proceedings. Letting us know it’s time 2 leave?

“Fake Smiles / Scared Humans” – a Techno EP about the illusion of the digital world

This EP dives into a society that smiles on the surface while quietly falling apart.
“Fake Smiles” reflects the perfectly curated online personas we’ve learned to accept as reality—polished, bright, and empty. Driving kicks and cold synths echo the pressure to perform while real emotions get lost in the feed.

“Scared Humans” goes deeper into the fear that hides underneath: fear of real connection, real flaws, a life that isn’t filtered. The track builds tension like a digital shadow that follows us everywhere.

With this EP, I want to invite listeners to pause and look past the shiny online masks. Techno as a statement—raw, honest, and unsettling.
