The title of the film is a Sudanese phrase which translates literally into "the rooster's sleep on a rope." Figuratively it refers to a person who tries to sleep standing, trapped between a state of slumber and wakefulness, one who is stuck in limbo; such is the reality of Sudanese refugees living in Cairo. 

The film is an ode to all refugees in the world who are searching for a sense of identity and belonging, who are struggling to live with hope. Through multiple diverse and complex characters from the Sudan, an intricate mosaic of their lives unfolds, painting a vivid reality of what it is like to be a refugee. 

عنوان الفيلم هو مثل سوداني يعني " نوم الديك على الحبل " بشكل مجازي ، يشير إلي الشخص الذي يحاول النوم واقفاً ، محاصراً بين حالة من النوم والاستيقاظ ، شخص عالق في طي النسيان ، وهذا هو واقع اللاجئين الذين يعيشون في القاهرة .
الفيلم هو قصيدة لكل اللاجئين قي العالم الذين يبحثوا عن الانتماء و الشعور بالهوية ويكافحوا للعيش والتمسك بالأمل ، و من خلال العديد من الشخصيات المتنوعة من السودان نكتشف تفاصيل معقدة من حياتهم ، التي

Wadi El Qamar, also known as Moon Valley, is a residential area located in the west of Alexandria, Egypt next to the Portland Cement factory. Just ten meters away from the residential area, the factory processes coal and garbage. It layers the homes of more than 30,000 people with toxic dust, causing tremendous health problems to those that live there.

The Moon Valley is home to 60,000 people, and historical documents show that the residential area was founded more than 70 years ago under King Farouk, predating the cement factory. Residents face enormous incidents of asthma, lung cancer, eye, ear, and throat infections, and chest sensitivities. The health problems caused by the factory dust affects working-age men who cannot support their families due to their deteriorating health conditions. Children are debilitated by these diseases, and the elderly are also particularly at risk.

People there are not living as humanity should. Children are born with asthma. Cement, coal, and car exhaust fills their homes. Every five minutes a new layer of dust appears. This projects documents the impacts of this dust on the residents of Moon Valley, and how people are trying to survive.


  وادي القمر هو منطقة سكنية تقع غرب الأسكندرية جوار مصنع إسمنت بورتلاند. على بعد عشرة أمتار فقط يعالج المصنع الفحم والقمامة، ويراكم طبقات من الغبار السام فوق بيوت أكثر من 30 ألف شخص مسبباً مشاكلاً صحية لمن يعيشون فيها.

يقطن وادي القمر قرابة 60 ألف شخص، وتظهر الوثائق التاريخية أن المنطقة السكنية كانت قد أنشئت قبل مصنع الإسمنت وأن إنشاءها يعود لعهد الملك فاروق قبل أكثر من 70 سنة. يواجه سكان المنطقة مخاطر الربو وسرطان الرئة وحساسية الصدر فضلاً عن أمراض العين والأذن والحنجرة. وتعيق هذه المشاكل الصحية الناجمة عن غبار المصنع من هم في سن العمل عن إعالة أسرهم، كما تتسبّب في تدهور صحة الأطفال وتعرّض حياة المسنين للخطر.

لا يعيش الناس هناك كآدميين. يولد الأطفال مع الربو. ويملأ بيوتهم غبار الأسمنت والفحم وعوادم السيارات. كل خمسة دقائق تُضاف طبقة جديدة من الغبار فوق سابقاتها. يوثق هذا المشروع آثار هذا الغبار على سكان وادي القمر وكيف يحاول الناس النجاة.
