"A Ei Di'r Deryn Du" (Blackbird will you go?) is a traditionnal Welsh lullaby originally written in Welsh and English. I wrote a French part and rewrote the original English part so that the song would tell the story of "Guleesh and the King of France's Daughter", an Irish fairytale.

The English part is meant to be sung by a male voice - the whole song is indeed a dialogue. In the song the French princess is to be married to a man she does not love. As she sings her despair an Irish boy, Guleesh, is watching her and falls in love with her. He vows to save her and to take her far away. When he reveals himself to the princess she recognises him as her one true love and they declare their love to each other.

For this version of "Black Is The Colour" I wrote an additionnal verse in French. In this demo the verse is slightly different than the one in my YouTube version. Here we assume her lover is just far away and cannot be by her side and she prays God that he would return so that she can tell him she loves him face to face.
