Plasma Audio mark their 20th release with a solo EP titled ‘Distant light' from label founder, Safire. The EP compiles of two dnb and three half time tracks exploring moments in time that venture through deep soundscapes, distorted baselines, hip hop inspired beats & technical production. The EP depicts various styles which the label has grown to be known for.

Conceptual & artistic is the theme while each track has meaning intertwined into its design - from dark to light experiences to political messages, the EP has a rich flavour and will have you feeling the music more than banging your head, with some exception as one or two of the tracks have a remarkable energy that is sure to hurt any dance floor. Artwork for the release has been hand drawn by Japanese designer Nene of QQQ, full release due out 13th of November 2017.

"When you go to your stereo and turn on the tunes and all is working well with the speaker wire, then the sound is sweet, crisp and clear. You hear what the artist and producer intended for you to hear — and it’s a good and pleasant thing. 

However, if your speaker wire has a short in it, if it’s frazzled by a fray, then things might not go so well, and a clear connection could be lost. 

There are moments when that frayed wire may be in the perfectly placed position to still allow really solid sound to pass through. In that moment, the music is coming through loud and clear and you get to enjoy the groove. 

But then something shifts — even just a little, and suddenly that worn wire produces static (and maybe even sparks). The music’s still there, but with it is another competing noise — a sharp and crepitating noise — a noise that’s taken something pleasant and made it painful. 

All of a sudden something shifts again, and everything has gone from simple static to overwhelming and excruciating white noise. In the chaotic cacophony you find yourself reaching for the volume control in order to mute the mess because it hurts. 

Then things shift once more and the frayed wire is now in a position where nothing’s getting through. The connection has been lost and all is silent. The stereo itself is still making a melody, but that melody is trapped inside the machine and unknown to anyone on the outside."

Across six data-rich drum and bass tracks on Artificial Intelligence, the Polish producer Ankou fleshes out a story of sentience searching for a body. Epic, theatrical chord progressions and pounding percussion are balanced by an omnipresent layer of glitch so detailed and dynamic. It’s as if once Ankou created this thick layer of processed sound, he became incapable of controlling it. It trickles and crashes into every orifice and open space, like data soup moving swiftly and not gently through a birth canal.

Each song blends seamlessly into the next. This creates deep interludes of rest that allow the listener to catch their breath. Ankou takes a loose approach to layering across Artificial Intelligence. His bit-crushed synthesis fans out into differing frequencies that still come back to smoothly congeal with one another. The result is a lush soundscape that’s unmistakably digital yet seemingly alive. This breathing digital synthesis is the definitive mark of Artificial Intelligence, and it is maintained across the EP, including its two halftime tracks.

Whether releasing with Vale, Renraku, or on a compilation from The Rust Music, Ankou’s style has always been dark and dystopian. With this release, however, he creates a cohesive, thought-provoking narrative that guides the listener through that darkness. The debate over whether artificial intelligence is malevolent or benign will find no resolution here, but it will find a soundtrack.

The title track BONE BENDER leverages cinematic progression with frenzied neuro designs contorting the skeleton itself into irregular shapes. Somehow exceeding the tension and ferocity of those before it, FEUD closes the EP with neuro meets tech, a track designed to crack dancefloors. The BONE BENDER EP is another clear leap in the rise of RESULT, while VALE continues its ascent as the bleeding-edge of the next generation of neuro producers.
