this is truly the best, I hear in a long time!!

A sunset set at Waking Life, Portugal, in June 2023. I DJed after Vlada and before Anthony Naples, in front of a beautiful lake with the sun setting behind me and an incredibly wholesome, engaged, positive, locked-in crowd in front of me. Kept this one pretty measured in pace, and went for expansive, moody, euphoric, maybe also a little psychedelic in vibe, sorta imagining gazing into the deep starry abyss.

I used to write (but never release) music with a more electronic / dance vibe under the name 'Enjinn'. This was a long time ago now.
It was usually quite badly written techno, thankfully none of it is available anywhere but my own hard drives. 

For a laugh I thought I'd go back to that sound but try to take it more seriously. 

Many, many years ago I had an obsession with the N64 game Extreme-G 2. 
I loved the speed, the futuristic look of the worlds / circuits and I also loved the soundtrack. 

Looking back on it now it seems a little bit dated, but the sense of speed, graphics, and general motion of the game still holds up. 
The soundtrack's weaker than I remembered it being, but that game had a hold of me for a long time and it reminds me of a certain part of my life when things were simpler and probably a lot happier.

Looking back at XG2 has made me remember how competitive me and my brother could be on Goldeneye 007 multiplayer. He could never strafe properly so I kicked his ass all the time. 
The technique was to hold L or R yellow C buttons while moving, steering into the side step to move faster. Remember that!!?? Ahhhh... the joy of proximity mines. 

It was around this sort of time he introduced me to Prodigy (Fat Of The Land) for the first time and my life changed forever.
Those were probably some of the best times I'll ever have!

I called this track Enjinn as a warm hug and homage to the good old days and my love of racing, shootemups and dance music, and the memory of my bro who I miss dearly every day.

I hope you enjoy it. If you don't please say so, and I'll be sure to write more just to annoy you ;) 
I was getting a little bored anyway. It's time to shake things up a bit.

MNTRA & NOZU team up for their latest release, ‘Push EP`on Desert Hearts Black.

The title track, ‘Push', sees MNTRA and NOZU crafting a stripped-down yet irresistibly effective tech house heater. Built around a pulsating groove, live guitar licks, and hypnotic vocal hooks, the track radiates playful, funky energy while maintaining a shadowy, late-night intensity. "The goal was simple: to make people dance," says MNTRA. "This track was pure fun to create, especially recording the live guitars and vocals. NOZU adds, "We had a lot of fun in the studio experimenting with some new production approaches within this record! The aim was to make a track for the dance floor that could be played at any hour of day and still bring the heat. The high energy funk combined with a nostalgic retro warmth really executed that vision perfectly for us!"

MNTRA and NOZU have been making waves with their ability to move between genres while keeping their sound unique. NOZU, fresh off his acclaimed single ‘Free' on Justin Martin's What To Do label, has taken his sound to festival stages like Same Same But Different, Mycelium Festival, and Umbrella Weekend. MNTRA, a powerhouse in the underground scene, continues his meteoric rise with an upcoming festival schedule that includes Lightning in a Bottle (Woogie), Shambhala (Amp), and Off The Grid. Following the success of his debut album ‘Hey, How Are You?', MNTRA has become a fixture in the North American club circuit, recently supporting The Sponges on their NA Tour and joining Smalltown DJs' 2025 Mountain Magic Tour.

On remix duties, Dernis, the kid takes ‘Push' even deeper into the after-hours, amplifying its raw groove with a driving, hypnotic flow. "The original had this incredibly funky energy, and I wanted to lean into that while making something relentless for the late-night dancefloor," he shares. A longtime engineer at Dirtybird Records, Dernis has honed his signature sound through performances at Dirtybird Campout, CampINN, and Northern Nights—and his remix of ‘Push' is primed to ignite those same peak-time moments.

With ‘Push EP', MNTRA & NOZU deliver an electrifying fusion of funk and techno, while Dernis, the kid ensures it goes even deeper into the night. Prepare to move—this one's built for the dancefloor.

Awaken To Life, My Child

Cio Dorbandt is a part of German techno’s furniture. Born in Hannover, she can now be found in Cologne, while over the course of a lengthy career she has stamped her mark on cities across the country, and many other spots further afield. Made a resident at Munich’s infamous Ultraschall in 2001, she had also spent much of her youth pursuing her aspiration to become a dancer in ‘80s Berlin—a place she now frequents for gigs at the likes of Berghain, Tresor, and ://about blank​, following a wave of international recognition in the late ‘00s.

With years of experience behind the decks, studio work came a little later for Dorbandt. Releasing on Prologue, Semantica and more, her sound as Cio D'Or was recognized as central in a wave of minimal, hypnotic techno producers, encompassing characters like Mike Parker, Sleeparchive and Donato Dozzy (with whom she has often worked alongside). More recently, she has turned her attention to a broader spectrum of styles, bouncing between dub and ambient soundscapes, with the focus directed on sound design. Her most recent album, All In All, was some of her most experimental work yet, diving head first into a world of piano composition and cinematic music, as well as the regular dancefloor fodder. Not prepared to confine her talents to record though, she has also orchestrated a choreography project alongside Brigitta Muntendorf entitled PULSA:RE, combining the work of an ensemble with a DJ set—yet another string on her musical bow. D’Or steps up for this week’s podcast, with a dramatic hour long mix of experimental techno sounds that gives a sense of where she is at right now.
