According to James Surowiecki, author of "The Wisdom of Crowds", for a crowd to be wise, it must meet four conditions, namely: diversity of opinion, independence, decentralization, and an aggregation mechanism. For this album, I gathered 60 different sets from a wide variety of sample libraries all over the world, and from these, I selected a total of 500 pieces of audio data. My goal was to use only these samples, editing them to turn them into musical compositions.

Elegia

This one started as a simple electric-guitar-and-bass progression, just a rough idea that wasn’t really going anywhere. This week I expanded it with several synth layers and some floating eBow lines.
Funny enough, the little gimmick in the middle section ended up giving the track its shape — a kind of slow, climatic crescendo that finally brought it to life.

I re-recorded that line as an intro today. The whole track is still a floating, meandering, blurry ambient groove, but there’s a certain beauty in that haze.

Inspired by this naviarhaiku620 poem:
