The conflict had raged through the night, staining the battlefield black with the dark blood of the fallen, a crust of congealing life permeating the bleak soil of this desolate place - the air punctuated the occasional shriek as soldiers fell - their voices joined with the weak moans of the dying that littered the landscape. The forthcoming LP from The Clamps and Kosen Productions isn’t just a collection of records which the French artist has spent months perfecting. It’s also a colossal look into the soundscape which such a high-calibre artist has at their disposal. Stretching across fifteen tracks, between drum & bass and garage, The Clamps focuses around the insanity that is stretching itself across the contemporary world and how he’s helped to define this sonically through each one of his records. There’s also a host of sci-fi inspired cuts which add to the LP’s explosive themes. From the already revealed record ‘LHS 1140b’, with a name that’ll resonate for any space fans, right through to the hard-hitting throws of ‘End of an Era’, there’s a taste to suit every palette throughout every expertly composed record. 

After already setting an enviable standard with the undeniably heavyweight standards on tracks like ‘Looking for Trouble’ alongside the notorious Nuklear MC, standalone offerings such as ‘Mankind’ and ‘30a #3a-23 Happiness’ peddle an unforgettable level of engineering whilst also pushing through a cinematic backdrop. Ed Rush and Audio teamed up under their Killbox moniker, fresh from their recent album on RAM Records, and deliver a crazy, frantic interpretation, laced with all kinds of mad percussion. FuntCase took everyone by surprise and drops a gruesome 174 workout that switches from halfstep to full on D&B halfway through and Oolacile represents the US with a grimey dubstep version

They had drifted through the depths of space for an eternity, a trio of titanic constructions forged upon the surface of a faraway planet. The vast expanse through which they floated was to be their final resting place, the only prison that could contain their colossal strength. Their towering forms were shaped in the image of the most feared predators of their homeworld, hulking chasis of metal with a visage of primal power. Though they appeared to sleep within the infinite blackness of space, an extensive network of sensors worked constantly within their cores, searching constantly for the signs of life that would allow their mechanical hosts to continue their prime directive. As they passed an yet another planetary system, their constant toil bore fruit, detecting life upon an otherwise barren orbital body. In an instant, the massive machines were revitalized by the signals that coursed within them. From their forms shone with a brilliant cyan hue, granting them the appearance of a falling star as they descended towards the surface below. 

The automatons stood silently upon landing, monolithic in their stature which dwarfed that of the colony below. Panicked rumors spread quickly throughout the colony’s inhabitants as all attempted to guess what had brought the titans to this world. As these rumors spread, so too did a sound, one new to the surface of this world. Beginning as a diminutive hum, its strength steadily increased until it began to shake the foundations of the settlement and the will of those within before ceasing in a single instant, allowing just enough respite to consider its function. Then burst forth the full fury of the trio, as from their eyes shot forth photon rays which sliced through the colony on a razor’s edge, cleaving its buildings in twain. In the low gravity present upon the planetoid the rubble created by their conquest hung in the air, oddly still in contrast to the ensuing chaos. The titans lumbered forwards through this maze of destruction, accompanying their lethal lightshow with the weight of their booming steps in pursuit of the masses who fled beneath them. A frantic scramble had begun amongst the colonists, as each rushed without care for any other towards the nearest planetary shuttles, only to see them atomized in turn by the rays which swept through the city. The titans let none escape their gaze as they pursued their programming with relentless efficiency, razing the once burgeoning colony to a mere layer of ash upon the surface of the planetoid.. As they targeted the final structure left standing, their sensors picked up an outbound signal transmitted from within. A single weak voice echoed a refrain they had heard before, a descriptive combination based upon their ursine appearance and murderous methodology. ‘They’re TEDDY KILLERZ” the voice shrieked into the transmitter, “and they can’t be stopped!”

The TEDDY KILLERZ make their return to the EATBRAIN with the release of the CHOPPING MACHINES EP, following the impactful release of their earlier HELLBLADE EP on the label. DROP IT struts out of the gate with a bombastic neurofunk beat, whilst the title track CHOPPING MACHINES slices samples and basses with a flurry of sharp edged cuts. JESTER darkens the atmosphere before launching into a similarly fast paced assault, whilst AFRIKA takes a roots based approach to its production. The closing track, STELLAR, is an electric slice of halftime that radiates futuristic energy. Representing a multifaceted approach towards a further expansion of their sound, CHOPPING MACHINES sees the TEDDY KILLERZ in true dynamic form.

No other producer packs a punch like AUDIO. From his tattooed drum & bass knuckles to his ruthlessly hard-hitting productions, Gareth Greenall embodies the spirit of D&B. Uncompromising, inherently underground and refusing to play games, the South London artist’s diligence, creativity and lack of complacency has inspired mass respect from every possible corner of the scene.

Four albums, countless 12”s and over 15 years deep into his limit-pushing adventures, Gareth continues to surge at the very forefront of the sound he’d first experienced as young Londoner tuning in to Colin Dale’s eminent Abstract Dance Kiss FM sermons. Instant jungle entrenchment: he hurled himself into the fray. Vinyls, Reason, illegal raves… The boy – whose mum brought him up on a strict diet of ABBA and Queen – grabbed any angle and any opportunity to get involved.
From ringing up and booking Ed Rush for a party above a pub in Croydon off the back of mobile number on a test press … To scoring a job as in-house studio engineer at legendary rave distributors Alphamagic where he studied the dark art of dynamics at a masters level: Audio wouldn’t – and still won’t – settle for anything less than full immersion.

His own production stripes stretch back to just after the turn of the century when he found himself at the helm of Resonant Evil. Demonstrating their power with a debut on the genre-defining Renegade Hardware, over the course of two years they scorched the repertoires of Moving Shadow, G2 and Outbreak. As Resonant Evil’s brutal bulletins wound down, Audio was winding up. Carving his own path with his own rules, he was soon snapped up by early neuro pioneers Tech Freak Recordings who gave him the opportunity to stretch himself creatively and broadcast his first long playing message. Audio’s debut album ‘To The Edge Of Reason’ showed the world he could cater for experiences beyond the dancefloor yet convey the same attitude and defiant dynamic he’d become synonymous with as a DJ and on 12”s. It was so well received; within a year he was signed by Ed Rush and Optical and for five years became an intrinsic member of the Virus family.

Audio’s work on Virus is where he really developed momentum. Already an established headliner across Europe, his productions and reputation became a global phenomenon, leading to tours in every territory. This reputation was compounded by albums such as ‘Genesis Device’ and ‘Soul Magnet’ which spawned the mighty ‘Headroom’. One of the most influential and successful tracks of its time, it knocked chart-topping EDM star Avicii off the Beatport top spot, dominating the chart for a total of 13 weeks and setting the foundation for his final Virus album ‘Force Of Nature’. Released in October 2013, it threw the scene completely off-guard… No other producer has conjured two albums of such strong-armed quality within less than a year. Just as his debut album had pricked the ears of Virus, ‘Force Of Nature’ attracted Andy C’s Ram Records.

Kindred spirits, Audio and Ram Records are a natural fit: both D&B lifers, both as emphatic and enthusiastic about the scene as they were at inception, both dedicated to pushing drum & bass to its furthest limits creatively and sonically, Audio’s decorated career has leveled up once more. To Gareth, though, it’s business as usual; still immersed in production science (now using the unique Studio One set up) and still just as buzzed about slapping a dancefloor into submission with deadly double drops as he was when he kicked off, Audio’s unique punch is harder than it’s ever been.
