On the one hand, we have seasoned DJs like Torren Foot, David Penn, Adam Beyer & Mary Jane downloading it and giving feedback like "this is fun", "love it, end of the night ballad" and "This is really classy, love it!".

Then another well-respected DJ told us in no uncertain terms, "He needn't have bothered, it's shocking."

How does Kevin McKay respond to that? "Sometimes I want to make records that are just fun," he says. "Not every release has to be a serious piece of dance music. The industry, however, doesn't like this. I constantly hear that 'people hate covers,' or a well-known label exec is on Twitter telling people to 'stop playing Abba.'

Thankfully, I don't have a traditional label, and I don't have to follow these snobby guidelines. However, I understand that not everyone wants releases with vocals you'd hear at a wedding on a label like Glasgow Underground. So I've set up a new label that allows me to do whatever I want.

WTF is the name of the label, and the first release brings together two of my favourite things, 80s vocals and big disco energy. 

This idea came from a DM I got from a fan, asking me to remix Foreigner. I wasn't sure I could do it, but after the session, I wasn't just convinced - I'd fallen in love with the track. After sending it out to DJs, the response was so positive, I set out to create a legal, releasable version. Up steps Simon Ellis on vocal duties, and here we have it, the 80s classic "I Want To Know What Love Is" turbocharged for 2025 fun-time parties.

It’s been a minute since we’ve had Terri-Anne on the label, and we’ve missed her loopy deep house vibes, so we set up a studio session with her and Kevin. Her first sample pick was one close to Kevin’s heart. Having co-produced the Mylo vs. Miami Sound Machine anthem “Dr. Pressure”, he has always been a huge fan of Gloria Estefan’s Latin disco. So when Terri-Anne suggested “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You”, he couldn’t load up his sampler fast enough. Much like his and Amal Nemer’s remix of “In The Air Tonight”, Kevin and Terri-Anne take snatches of vocal and lay them over a deep, pad-filled groove. Add in some choice timbale rolls and you have an absolute belter of a tune.
