One of the first things that hooked Kevin McKay into dance music was a mixtape he picked up from a DJ playing at the Sunrise parties around London. Phil Collins' "In The Air Tonight" was at the end of the mix, and he could imagine how incredible it would be to listen to it as the sun came up at the end of a night of ravey goodness. As his productions dipped deeper into afro-house territory, he imagined how this iconic vocal would sound over a slow-burning percussive beat. Turns out it works a treat, and if you're into "Les Gout" or James Mac's "This Boy Is Mine", you'll love Kevin's version of this Balearic classic.

Art is so closely linked to music that it's surprising so few artists are musicians and vice versa. In terms of dance music, the most well-known is Trevor Jackson, whose groundbreaking covers for Soulwax sit shoulder to shoulder with his recordings as Playgroup. London's Samuel Muir joins the select group with this stunning collaboration with Kevin McKay. He has designed for A-list musicians (Khruangbin, Gorgon City, Deadmau5, Calvin Harris, Jessie Ware) and cool-as-you-like brands (Byron, Red Bull, Koya, Ace+Freak). For this release, he's taken inspiration from unashamedly big room club bangers to bring afro-tech flavours to this Seal-sampling slammer. Already tested by Kevin McKay to massive response at London's Roast party, this heady hypnotic journey is the perfect accompaniment to afro cuts by Band&dos, Malone and Nico De Andrea.

Hotswing is one of our favourite producers. The young Italian DJ is brilliant at sample manipulation, and, in his best form, his loopy bass grooves create dancefloor mayhem. His "Work It" cut on Earth & Days' There Was Jack imprint gives instant floor-filling love to any club. His most significant streaming success is the hooky-as-hell "Body Movin'" on GU from 2022. We would release more of his tunes if we could, but his love of a cheeky sample makes it almost impossible legally! The story of this record is a classic dance music "happy accident". Kevin McKay had been working on a version of Trapped, having loved the 2020 Carlo Lio edit and wanting to make a version he could play peak time. Alex (Hotswing) sent a track for Kevin to collaborate on, and they just so happened to be on the same key. It was a stroke of genius from Kevin to mix the two, and now we have an incredible reinterpretation of one of house music's most endearing songs. So, if you ever wanted to know what a legendary house vocal like "Trapped" would sound like over a pumping, feel-good groove, check this one out!
