In an idle moment, a friend tapped out a rhythm on the headstock strings of my 6-string. I happened to be recording at the time. Valve was created around this arbitrary snippet of sound, which was looped to form the core of the track.

Also released under Lomarthian (Coralie Martin on bass, synth and vocals - Stiobhan Ell on dark midi and sporadic glimmerings of guitar), our joint project - more in a post-rock kinda vein but merging with some subspecies of indietronica.

The Mustang was played through an Alesis BassFX foot pedal into an old tube amplifier and recorded using a single AKG mic. Aeons later, synth parts were written around and layered over the existing structure of Coralie's freeform explorations on bass.

Minimalism isn't always what you think it is ( like classic Chain Reaction) - sparse, longform, gradual development, long crossfades, around a core looping phrase or rhythm. One subspecies of minimalism is this: Minimalese - lush, ecstatic, deeply textured, wending its way around a swung core loop or riddim (closer to #SteveReich, say, or even #OrenAmbarchi). This mix, in particular, will leave you feeling buoyant. The whole EP is upbeat (for a change). Maybe we need these small doses of feelgood as an antidote to all the grim fuckery that's going on around us and in us? (<written in early May, 2025. Will probably be deleted some time later).

Longform exploration of a melodic progression originally composed on the mandolin. I prefer the sound of the bass mandolin or mandola with its mellower tone and attack, but this was what I had so I've EQ-ed them to de-emphasize the high mids.
