When making this piece I wanted to explore the compatibility of very different genres. I chose to try and blend chiptune with ambient because they are almost opposites.  Chiptune is elegantly simple and surface level with its methodical melodies and perfect quantization whereas ambient is free flowing and subtle.  I then introduced the main musical ideas of my piece in a synthesizer led ensemble.  Finally I transitioned this back to a chiptune version of the melody, thus giving the song a completeness because of its wrapping of musical styles.

I made this using only the instruments and adjustable synths that come with Logic.  I entered the notes initially using my keyboard but then had to spend a significant amount of time quantizing them manually.  The precedent for perfect rhythm set by the opening chiptune had to be abided by later in order for the different styles to blend.
