AUDUBON QUARTET  (1974-2011)

Renowned for their “strikingly beautiful, luminescent” sound (The New York Times), the
Audubon Quartet won acclaim throughout the world for nearly four decades.  Founded in 1974, 
the ensemble quickly achieved international recognition by winning top prizes
in three international competitions during their first four years together.

The Audubon Quartet performed in major concert halls throughout North and South America, Europe, the
Middle East and the Caribbean and made a groundbreaking three-week tour of Mainland China at the invitation of the Chinese Ministry of Culture in 1981, the first American string quartet to perform and teach in that country.  Other important appearances included an invited performance at the White House by President Jimmy Carter, regular performances on the BBC Radio in London, NPR Performance Today and a feature television appearance on CBS Sunday Morning. 

The Audubon Quartet enjoyed a 25-year summer affiliation with the Chautauqua Institution in New York and a 35-year association with the Music at Gretna Festival in Pennsylvania.   Posts held as the quartet-in-residence included Marywood College in Scranton, PA (1974-79), Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, VA (1979-2001), and Shenandoah University in Winchester, VA (2007-2011).
