"Argo (Arnie) has been a stable member of EA as well as a close friend for as long as the label has been around. One of the original 10.

During COVID in 2019 we started talking to Argo to write an album. Whilst the album work was coming together, unfortunately he suffered the loss of his father.
What happened was the album was actually pencilled to be out in 2020/21. Quickly this spiralled into an artist's well needed escape and Arnaud and I spoke at length about maybe putting his emotions into the music and not thinking of the album. (AT THIS POINT) the Album was off and I truly would of done anything to help Arny out.

Fast forward to June 2022 and Arny sends us 45 tracks wrote from that time Period and asked for us to work on pulling an Album from it. (AT THIS POINT) Album on!

What then followed was 3 months of listening and whittling down the list. I think we had some trillion messages trying to sort this.
Truly this task was the hardest that I think any of us thought about anyones music."

The Rabbit, according to the Chinese lunar calendar, symbolizes longevity, peace, and most suitable for the Unchained trajectory, creativity.  

Each year we set out to collate a mélange of ambiguous club-ready electronic whilst doing our part to cross that apparent divide between drum ‘n’ bass, jungle, footwork, grime and other members of the extended bass family.

We haven’t always been wed to the massive banger alone, but we have to admit, we always will be obsessed. We don’t consider ourselves possessed by sonic slabs that are looped beyond recognition, but we hold them in high regard just the same. 

So with that in mind, curating the Year of the Rabbit compilation took some time this year.

The Year Of The Rabbit showcases artists both emerging and established from China, Russia, England, Holland, and the United States. Be it wonky, divergent, mutant, deep, or simply in the vein of the pure epic club banger, every producer has something remarkable and distinctive going on.

We introduce and welcome back our 2023 Year of the Rabbit artist crew: Subp Yao, Radiax, Lakeway, Danky, Neve, Harka, Doctor Jeep, Leo Cap, Kray, Trophy, Airstrike, Throe, Pllfry and Dynamic Stab.

We’re very excited to welcome Mia to the Sudo discography!

Born in Devon with Bristol as her second home, Mia Temple has a rich musical background, spanning from drumming at the age of 13 in a punk outfit all the way to co-fronting the 8 piece reggae band 'Backbeat Soundsystem' on Easy Star records. 

She currently lives a nomadic lifestyle, performing as a vocalist for a living, producing tracks for her digital dub/140 duo project ‘ESKIMO NEBULA' and making beats + DJing with the rest of her time. 

Her production and DJ style is deep, gritty, hard & heavy but can also output tribal and rhythmic impressions amongst her 140 / Grime influenced performances. Her first original release ‘Pilgrim', which dropped October 2022, gained support from the formidable @deeptempo140 podcast as well as garnering support from renowned DJs in the scene on an international level. Since then she has been consistently hot on the studio graft with tracks such as ‘Gate Of Storr' and now her latest imprint, 'Trust', out today on all platforms.

Oddkut is a DJ and producer from Balakovo, Russia. Creator of the project Judder, whose main activity is the support and promotion of DJs and producers who prefer music with a dark atmosphere, deep bass and endless variations of rhythm alongside his residency on London’s Subtle FM Radio, where you can hear both Russian and foreign guests delving into the darker corners of Bass music and 140. 

Previous releases include imprints on British Hatched, Wheel & Deal, Artikal, Spentshell and local labels United and DUB’RAW Nikita also has vinyl releases on Slimzos, Rotpot, FatKidOnFire, Belgian Duploc, Estonian Bass372 and the local Bass:weight, to name a few…

In Vancouver, BC, there are few names that will elicit as much reverence as Michael Red’s. He is a true pioneer in the underground dance realm, his journey taking him from Halifax to Vancouver and being renowned the continent over, as a fearless DJ and visionary producer with deep roots in Reggae, Hip Hop, Dancehall, Dubstep and Jungle’s early days. His passion for supporting burgeoning artists in Vancouver’s vibrant scene, has blossomed his Low Indigo label and event series, which has given rise to some exciting young talent
in the city and helped to connect seemingly disparate parts of the scene. His contributions to building the local scene can not be understated as he was one of the main curators for the acclaimed New Forms Festival and the founder of the city’s notorious Lighta! Sound.

Hydrology is an uncompromising exercise in authenticity. Referencing various moods, styles and emotions being their own streams, this collection of music finds connections by bringing together things of difference, and making sense of them. It’s as textural as it is visceral. Club music that sits somewhere between industrial Techno and spaced-out Dubstep. It sounds as if there was no way the music wasn’t created in outerspace. Bass-drenched and emotive, each track has a weightless sensation that resonates deep in your chest. From the throbbing techno-bass proclivities of ‘No Stars’, to the intense (and tense) menace of ‘Planetary’, to the meditative simplicity of ‘That’, Mr. Red shows us that his productions aren’t afraid to chart unexplored and exciting
waters.

This album transcends genre titles, and with songs like ‘Slip’, we see a master producer putting on a clinic in restraint. Michael expertly manipulates space and dynamic to create songs like ‘Virgo Transition’ that consists of fewer sounds than you can count on the fingers of your hands, yet still hauntingly compelling. His collaborations with Blind Prophet and Spurz show another facet to his prowess and nicely round out the package with a sonic flare that would work equally well in headphones as it would on a dance floor.
