The Machine clicks and ticks in this piece as cogs turn and churn. I wrote this some time ago, challenging myself to create something in an uneven time signature. It also has minimalist qualities with repeating cells of music, making the music fairly hypnotic.

There are moments in your life where your soul takes flight and you feel that you are quite literally soaring through the clouds. We should always remember these moments as they are the best part of being 'alive.' 

The wind may change your direction, you may be blinded by the rain and lightning but you will fly on in the open sky, regardless.

I recently picked up a new set of choir samples and decided to give it a spin on this piece. A couple of tweaks and fixes to the original and it sounds better than ever.

Kunkka's Lament And Shanty

I decided to revisit this track to 'clean up' the sound and apply some principles I have learned over the last year. Much like my revision of the Kunkka track, I feel the changes have made it much better. I decided to do away with the compression I had liberally applied as it makes the track a great deal more intimate. Enjoy

The Dead God

A musical imagining of Dragon Knight's lore where he enters a cave to face his foe, an Eldwurn called Slyrak after a long, many-year journey. I tried to capture the young knight's fatigue and elation of reaching the end of the trail, only to find his foe is no longer a challenge. The encounter does not end how he expected however...

The Dragon And The Knight - Dota 2 Lore Music

I absolutely love the work of a twitch streamer who goes by the name of Day9. Recently at the end of one of his shows he was asked a question: " What is your favourite childhood memory?" You see him tell the story here https://youtu.be/DkUUi1A6q4k?t=2176.

Day9 then proceeded to tell a story which so moved me that I put together this piece.

Day9 spoke of a particular street which he frequented very often on his long, exploratory rides of the neighbourhood on his much-loved bicycle.

I have paraphrased his story below: 

"there was just this street, this huge, long, long, street (over a mile long)... and it had these giant trees and this huge canopy over the street. I would always go down that street when I was going home. 

There was a lot weather in Kansas City so there was always wind and clouds. I remember in the hot summers there would be this painterly blue sky with white fluffy clouds and rich lush green trees with thick brown trunks which canopied the entire street. As the leaves would wiggle (in the wind), I would look down at the pavement and I always thought it looked like the glistening of the ocean and I was a little explorer at sea on my bicycle."

I think the story so moved me because of the way he delivered it and also the deep level of genuine emotion behind the memory. I could not help but explore the emotions he was sharing in music.

The Sea Explorer (on A Bicycle) [String Arrangement]

I challenged myself to create a piece which had many different time signatures and worked its way through a few different keys as I felt I was getting a bit boring in these respects recently. Crescent was the result and I feel that it is something quite different and similar to what I have put together before.

When I was writing and listening to it, I could not help but think of people dancing in the moonlight with clouds periodically covering the moon up.

I currently write music for short films, television and video games inspired and influenced by the likes of modern composers such as James-Newton Howard, Alexander Desplat, James Horner and Philip Glass as well as 'classical' composers like Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, Gershwin and Holst (and countless others!).
