Heaven's Gate

I wrote this album from February to April 2022, I recorded this from my living room. Originally I wanted to name this album Mount Erie after the photographed mountain on the cover, though, I did not want it to be associated with the band of the same name from Anacortes so I decided to leave it self titled.

I took the cover photo in January 2022 from just beneath Mount Erie, near Tursi Trail and Rosario Beach.

I decided to name myself August Eliason in May of 2021 following a mental episode that I had that made me decide to alter my path. I can't remember if the band or the name came first but eventually the name August just made sense. It was August of 2021 that I publicly announced my band and name at once. There isn't separation from myself beyond all of it just being painted images that do not always represent reality and may even feature people helping me create things. This album was inspired by mental states, I know them all too well so I felt the often dark nature of the lyrics and the sometimes confrontational aspects mixed with the inconsistency might shed some light on it all.

It should be noted that this is less of an album to stand on it's own and more of a documentation of the process creating the debut album, Songs For A Martyr. But with that being said, I do believe the material here can stand on it's own and be comparable to the debut while maintaining a separate though relative appearance. Here is a compilation of material recorded from nowhere, Washington in the time leading up to recording the debut album Songs For A Martyr. Most of the songs here are malformations of the final material on the album.

August is the solo project of August Eliason (b.August 18, 1998). Based out of Anacortes, Washington; August's influences range from philosophy to nature and all of the extremity that comes with: vastness, hypnotism, and contrast.

August's debut album Songs For A Martyr was written as a series of improvisations built into songs in the studio and this often becomes the case for August's songwriting which is mostly a process of starting with one thing and then building everything else in the recording process.

He often recruits collaborators from all around and his live shows often are unique in their separation from one another. Sometimes having different lineups in the band even only one show apart.
